Historia
In March 1941 Jimmy Stewart, America's boy next door and recent Academy Award winner, left fame and fortune behind and joined the United States Army Air Corps to fulfill his family mission and serve his country. He rose from private to colonel and participated in 20 often-brutal World War II combat missions over Germany and France. In mere months the war took away his boyish looks as he faced near-death experiences and the loss of men under his command. The war finally won, he returned home with millions of other veterans to face an uncertain future.

Truly was a Wonderful Life!
Revisado: 10-01-20
This was not a true biography-type book, as it was primarily the story of James Stewart's personal experiences during a troubled time- WW2. Yet, to give us a more complete understanding of the "why's, how's, and wherefore's of the story, the author had to bring in the Ancestral, Familial, Childhood, Religious and other influences that carried him through so heroically. Excellent read!

Historia
Almost all accounts of D-Day are told from the Allied perspective, with the emphasis on how German resistance was overcome on June 6, 1944. But what was it like to be a German soldier in the bunkers and gun emplacements of the Normandy coast, facing the onslaught of the mightiest seaborne invasion in history? What motivated the German defenders, what were their thought processes - and how did they fight from one strong point to another, among the dunes and fields, on that first cataclysmic day?

Fresh perspective.
Revisado: 07-02-18
The idea that the German Soldier was protecting and supporting the European people was very interesting. And now I can see how German soldiers probably believed that very thought. Interesting how the prisoner of war soldier made clear that once they fell into English hands, the French people started to make threats and vial verbal assaults. He had a hard time reconciling that just 24 hours earlier they had been laughing and trading with each other for "black market" products. Until this moment, the German soldiers thought that the French were thankful the Germans were there to protect a " United Europe".
