Historical faction or fiction?

I love the books that add creative poetic/literary license to well-known historical topics (e.g. The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown, Nightfall by Nelson Demille., etc). This one is now on that list!

Predictable, but still worth the listen

Typical plot, but performed in that way that makes you want to keep listening, even if you knew exactly what would be coming up next. Definitely a "feel-good" story, if that's what you are looking for.

Thought I was getting another Gray Man novel...

Even though I purchased the book under the assumption that it was a Gray Man novel, disappointed when I figured out after a chapter or two that Court Gentry had no role in this one, it still didn't disappoint once I decided to give it a chance. Like so many others, it took a while to get good, but once it did, it was classic Mark Greaney!

However when I see authors I really enjoy, I tend to give the work a legitimate shot with an open mind. Even though the format still doesn't appeal to me, I think it was well worth the time. Somewhat predictable, but most are. I recommend you give it a shot!

I always try to give a series the benefit of doubt when they start slow. This was pretty mediocre in my opinion, but I have high expectations. if there is a downside to being "well read", I would have to say that it is having the bar set high. In fairness to the author, there was a time when I would have given this higher marks. I'd definitely recommend that you consider it as a filler between series if you are struggling to find that next great binge-series.

This one started out slow and every bit indicative of a novice author. After some slow and agonizing openings and a rolling story, it picked up and finally finished decent.

At first, the writing had some glaring flaws in it. I assume others have addressed the issues from my prior reviews. The knowledge seems to be slowly increasing around the obvious errors in the previous books. Plus, Kent lost his LC9 (9mm version of the LCP 380). Hopefully it stays lost and he discovers H&K! :-)

Author lacks critical knowledge or at least doesn't show that he is knowlegeable IF he actually is. He should consult with someone who is eith a seasoned veteran of the topics that he writes about or at a minimum, consult with someone IN the industry, whether a (very experienced) law enforcement officer for the protocols along those lines and/or even a gun store owner or employee who can discuss firearms with ease. At least then the author will have a better chance of curbing his critical mistakes in this writing. Part of me wants to volunteer my own services, but I'm sure he probably has a lot of "self-proclaimed experts" out there. I love how this book's story played out and I've actually finshed book two as well. The stories are well thought out, but are being crippled by the cheesiness of some of the things being said...and other miss-edits where one moment, it is a Ruger LCP and moment's later, "...standing there, pointing a Glock at...". ANYWAY...I'm going to give one more book a shot, but can't promise that books 4 & 5 will be on the list if 3's story is continues to be chizzled at by cheesy, (lazy?), amatuerish mistakes.

Look for a review of book 3 in a few hours or by tomorrow. That should give indication as to whether the author is improving, at least in MY humble opinion!

Good overall story, but the author...

...lacks CRUCIAL authentic knowledge that is glaringly obvious to most of the general population of listeners who would intentionally choose this type of or even this specific book. I am not even referring to the fact that NO spec ops, OGA agent, or upper tier LEO would choose a Ruger LCP as a carry piece or weapon of choice. A patrolman might, but only b/c his or her salary wouldn't permit a real and dependable tactical weapon such as a Sig, Walther, or the ultimate best, H&K. factor in the lack of shooting experience and the reason for an LCP becomes obvious...but NOT for a secret agent!
As I said, something that obvious isn't even the reason I say what I do...my reasoning is even more obvious: Jack, a Glock does NOT have an external safety! Trigger safety, internal drop safety, and features...but someone looking at a Glock and flipping on/off the safety? Heh.
As cheap as the LCP is, I assume the author has one...unfired...and that is the source of the bulk of his firearms knowledge. Otherwise good stories, but they can easily be cheapened and ruined by blatant inaccuracies!
