Continues the best of the Series
Revisado: 12-27-24
I loved checking in on the Bonner family. There was good, consistent content that reminded me how much I loved the series. There were also brand new characters, challenges and geographic regions. The Bonner-Ballentine characters possessed the same values and propensity to act on these values as were exhibited in the earlier books.

Would rate 1st half of book lower than second half
Revisado: 09-13-24
The first half of the book was very slow with what appeared to be a pretty flat plot. But the second half was very interesting with each “tourist” having varied and interesting plot lines. In the end I was glad I read it.

Historia
Dr. Tyson Klein is a quantum physicist who has dedicated his entire life to his research. At CERN, he analyses data generated by the Large Hadron Collider, the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. Now, Ty believes he's found a pattern in its output. It looks like an organised data stream, being broadcast over what he calls a quantum radio. Could it be a signal from another universe? A message sent from the future? Or something else entirely?

Similar to Hail Mary in some ways!

I liked the science, the discovery and the deep plot. The story gives a person a lot of interesting ideas to think about. The characters are intriguing. Hoping there are sequels!

Historia
It began in a women's club in London on a February afternoon. A discreet advertisement in The Times, addressed to "Those who Appreciate Wistaria and Sunshine..." lures four very different women away from the dismal British weather to San Salvatore, a castle high above a bay on the sunny Italian Riviera. There, the Mediterranean spirit stirs the souls of Mrs Arbuthnot, Mrs Wilkins, Lady Caroline Dester, and Mrs Fisher, and remarkable changes occur.

Not a True Travel Novel
Revisado: 07-13-24
I was in the mood for an Italian travel story and was therefore a little disappointed. It is more of a story about the deep reflections of four women and three men. These reflections were very fruitful and the story has a nice ending.

"I'm going to die a hundred years before I was born...." The handwritten note was in a dusty trunk that sat in a cave untouched for 150 years. What did the words mean? When journalist Ray Burton finds the trunk near the Arizona ghost town of Hollow Rock, his life changes in an instant. Something in the trunk shouldn’t be there. This begins a dangerous journey of discovery bordering on the impossible. A discovery that will affect the past, the present, and the future.

Well thought out. . .
Revisado: 07-02-24
While the narration wasn’t the best, I became more accustomed to it the longer I listened. The story was engaging enough to make up for it. I plan to read the sequel.

Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Depressing
Revisado: 12-02-23
This book features one character after another who has led a broken and pointless life. The happiest characters are tragically melancholy. I was left depressed about the chorus of sad people in the world.

Historia
Raina Bretton is a rag woman in London's East End when a handsome stranger appears in a dank alley and offers her a glittering smile and a chance for adventure. Rothburne Abbey has a unique position for her, one that will take her away from her hardscrabble life and give her a chance to be a lady. Things she could only dream of might be coming true. But some dreams turn out to be nightmares. Though Raina has traded squalor for silk and satin, something about the abbey is deeply unsettling.

War is sad
Revisado: 08-29-23
Given the reviews, I was surprised that I did not enjoy the book more. For one, it jumps around on several timelines that are not linear. Secondly, it left me with a great deal of sadness for all of the loss. I’m sure this was an accurate reflection of the loss that actually occurred. Life went on for many but those lives were scarred.

A Tale that tugs on both heart and brain
Revisado: 08-18-23
I love mysteries that span the years and this mystery really delivers in a family, historical and cultural level. While it’s fiction, there are enough real-world elements to the story that I will continue my intrigue by researching the lost settlement of Roanoke, Depression Era relief writing projects and the history of the Melungeon people.
