Historia
Edith Hamilton shows us Rome through the eyes of the Romans. Plautus and Terence, Cicero and Caesar, Catullus, Horace, Virgil, and Augustus come to life in their ambitions, their work, their loves and hates. In them we see reflected a picture of Roman life very different from that fixed in our minds through schoolroom days, and far livelier.

The real story is the psychoanalytic disposition of the author from reading this book, rather than any comprehension of the “vie de rum.”

issues w/translation but appreciative
Revisado: 05-31-20
i want audible to post other translations of the majjhima nikayas... there are issues with the translation but overall appreciative of the material available.
the procedure for reading this book is the classic method- multiple, understanding each sutta indvidually as well as part of the larger framework. i guess, that i will need at least 5-6 listenings to develop a nuanced understanding of the subjet

Historia
The course begins by looking at the origins of Christian monasticism during the third century CE, when thousands of men and women renounced the world and withdrew to the deserts of Egypt, Syria, and Palestine to seek God in a life of solitude and prayer. What inspired them to do this? What were they trying to achieve? In seeking answers to these questions, we will examine the lives and sayings of the so-called "desert fathers", with a particular emphasis on the theological writings of Evagrius of Pontus (c. 345-399).

Highly competent author, he is a true scholar. I did not realize it but the speaker=author, but that makes sense now because the performance was lively and came out as authentic 🤪

An “interesting”take from a “British” perspective
Revisado: 02-19-20
This is a classic “western” understanding of Buddhist mythology and cosmology.. I enjoyed it, but did not really learn anything about Buddhism except a modern secular perspective that tends to “psychologize” and therefore makes the Buddhist vocab more understandable to people with western education...

Historia
This remarkable collection of 73 verses contained in the 'Khuddaka Nikaya' section of the Pali Canon dates from the BC 6th century. It is said to be the earliest voices of women in recorded history. The verses, some brief, some more extended, are the utterances of the bhikkhunis, the nuns at the time of the Buddha, concerning their life and their ‘awakening 17.

Terrible narrator- ruined the whole experience
Revisado: 09-14-18
Did not even finish the book. The narrator is terrible. The presentation is not very good so the whole experience is not very good. The story as far as it got, was good, but disappointed in this presentation.

Some sources say that the Buddha was born on or around April 8, 563 B.C. How many years have you been around without discovering his wisdom? According to tradition, the words of The Dhammapada come directly from the mouth of Buddha. This translation in particular is among the most poetic and spiritually insightful.
