Historia
When NASA sent astronauts to the moon in the 1960s and 1970s the agency excluded women from the corps, arguing that only military test pilots—made up exclusively of men—had the right stuff. It was an era in which women were steered away from jobs in science and deemed unqualified for space flight. Eventually, though, NASA recognized its blunder and opened the application process to a wider array of hopefuls, regardless of race or gender. From a candidate pool of 8,000 six elite women were selected in 1978—Sally Ride, Judy Resnik, Anna Fisher, Kathy Sullivan, Shannon Lucid, and Rhea Seddon.

Full circle.
Revisado: 02-14-24
Having read books from other members of the TFNG class this book sort of tied it all together for me. Most notably Mike Mullane’s, who’s mentioned frequently in this book, own book “Riding Rockets”. It highlighted the perspective of the women from that class and some of the more behind the scenes details. The narrator also nailed it. A movie would really be the icing on the cake. An absolute must read

Widely heralded on publication as a “must-read” (Military Review) and “important window on America’s battle with al-Qaeda” (Washington Post), Ali Soufan’s revelatory account of the war on terror as seen from its front lines changed the way we understand al-Qaeda and how the United States prosecuted the war — and led to hard questions being asked of our leaders.

These reviews are getting hard to trust
Revisado: 02-18-22
this book is very poorly paced and thin on details. It jumps around and has almost zero cohesion. There’s a random 9/11 story, the very late SERE school equivalent story etc. And the Brits came to Las Vegas twice for a joint exercise. Maybe I should’ve read the description closer but I can’t help but feel the cover is a bit of intentional deception as well. The nose of this jet looks remarkably similar to an F-16 as pictured at a glance, it’s not, and the flight suit isn’t close enough to discern any differences either. Maybe if I hadn’t read Dan Hamptons “viper pilot” first I wouldn’t be so harsh. But for me the narration is the highlight of an otherwise non cohesive, badly paced vanilla story.

Historia
Humanity's first reusable spacecraft and the most complex machine ever built, NASA's space shuttle debuted with great promise and as a dependable source of wonder and national pride. But with the Challenger catastrophe in 1986, the whole space shuttle program came into question, as did NASA itself, so long an institution that was seemingly above reproach. Wheels Stop tells the stirring story of how, after the Challenger disaster, the space shuttle not only recovered but went on to perform its greatest missions.

The narrator makes a potentially great story very painful. I didn’t scroll down far enough. Shame on all you 5 star performance reviewers its just unbearable.

Historia
In Skyfaring, airline pilot and flight romantic Mark Vanhoenacker shares his irrepressible love of flying on a journey from day to night, from new ways of mapmaking and the poetry of physics to the names of winds and the nature of clouds. Here, anew, is the simple wonder and transcendent joy of motion and the remarkable new perspectives that height and distance bestow on everything we love.

Everyone was right

I actually own this book in hard copy form and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. However, as others have said, this narrator does the piece absolutely zero justice. It’s very hard to listen to and I didn’t finish chapter 3 before I had to return it. Mark deserved better than this.
