Historia
Multi-award-winning storyteller Sarah Kendall brings her critically acclaimed, funny and moving live shows to audio. In the first trilogy of shows, each takes us on a trip, giving us a unique snapshot of small-town life in Australia in the late '80s and early '90s. At a time when most people were seeing Australians through the filter of Home and Away and Neighbours, Sarah presents a darker underbelly to the stereotype of the sun-loving, happy-go-lucky Aussie teenager.

Historia
In North Devon, where two rivers converge and run into the sea, Detective Matthew Venn stands outside the church as his estranged father’s funeral takes place. On the day Matthew left the strict evangelical community he grew up in, he lost his family, too. Now, as he turns and walks away again, he receives a call from one of his team. A body has been found on the beach nearby: A man with a tattoo of an albatross on his neck, stabbed to death.

Enjoyable, twisty mystery with complicated characters
Revisado: 09-01-20
First off, the audio version is hard to turn off. Ben Aldridge moves between so many characters, each with their own voice and regional accent. Well done! DI Matthew Venn is serious, introspective, and very good at his job. His childhood in a strict Church instilled in him a need for order, even after he left the Church. He is gay and married to Jonathan, who is as outgoing as Matthew is a loner. Both care deeply about people, and that is the heart of this story, featuring several women with Downs, a murdered man seeking forgiveness, and well placed men with too much influence. Set in many small towns in Devon, the landscape is different than in the Vera Stanhope or the Shetland books, but the writing is engaging and the characters memorable. Can’t wait to read the next one!
