The title story, "Woman Hollering Creek," is one of the best American short stories ever.

This is a fun little paranormal mystery set in Portland OR (Keep it weird!) and featuring a long-lived, 28 year old, white haired, vegan alchemist. And a gargoyle, who is NOT a love interest.

The reader is good, too, though PacNW natives may wince at the mispronounciation of Willamette.

The central character hammers her vegan nail pretty solidly, and this tracks with the Portland rep. Recipes are included, so you can truly digest this story.

Poor reading performance. Juvenile characters who are only ostensibly adults. Shallow characterization. Dull prose. Plodding plot. Not for me.

I do think this would probably be good for a tween or very young teen who likes adventure/fantasy/mystery and wants to read chapter books with very brief chapters. Inonly made it half way through book 2 before calling it quits, so I can't vouch for content beyond that.

A++ for the reader here. She made an otherwise mediocre book tolerable.

The story? Well, if I was thirteen and still in the grip of a hormonal tsunami, I would probably love this. I suspect it's aimed at a teen market. As an adult and someone who knows a smidge about writing, it was maudlin. It was like listening to a middleschooler read her own heartfelt love poetry, poorly written and overly sentimental. But, you know, with feeling. A lot of feeling. And a narcissistic sense of entitlement.

This heroine lost me when she crossed the wall and became a lapdog. She alienated me with her behavior toward the people in her village. The ending was like an eighth grader's martyr fantasy. It was all pretty over the top.

The actor voicing Parisa whispers half her lines and growls the other half. Is this supposed to be sexy? It is annoying, ridiculous, and reduces the character to a single note-a major fail for the actor and a catastrophe for this audiobook. We literally cannot hear half of what she says. and the other half is misdelivered.
As with the first book of this series, having multiple actors each read a chapter was a *terrible* idea. If you are going to do that, you have to get them into the room together and read like a script, each actor owning a voice. What we have here is a bunch of random readers taking turns reading chapters, each voicing the same characters differently. They can't agree on Callum's accent or on Tristan's accent. No one seems to have any idea how to read Raina. The actor reading Parisa, the one who _should_ have some sense of her depth, is the only one who reads her like a heartless prostitute. There is a massive continuity fail in this audio performance.

The story is definitely good. The audiobook performance stinks. Just go read the text version.

This story is solid, and plan to get the sequel because it's just episode #1. Each chapter follows a different character, all of whom are magical people joining a closed group overseeing the famed library of Alexandria. Of course, nothing is as it seems. This story reminds me a lot of The Umbrella Academy. It's part Survivor, part Magicians (Lev Grossman), and part Harry Potter, albeit a grown-up version. Good stuff.

I am not impressed with the choice to have different actors read each chapter. The idea I am sure is to give each character a unique voice, but the problem is that each chapter has multiple people speaking, so what happens is that you hear 8 or 9 different actors reading Atlas, 8 or 9 different readers as Libby, 8 or 9 different voices for Parisa... Instead of 8 unique voices, we have 64 overlapping voices. It's confusing. Just one talented reader would have been a better choice.

The stories are great, and this is a solid deal with three novels bundled for one credit.
The writer has great characters woven into these murder mysteries. The protagonist is going through some character growth, but she handles it with humor, making these stories a fun read. These are far better written than the reader's performance suggests.

The reading was really rough on the first book, but better by the third. In the first book, the reader didn't seem to know who this character is or how to do the intonation. The third book was much better wirh fewer singsong intonations and misread emphases. I wish more readers and writers worked together on audiobooks.

If you are looking for a murder mystery that is light and amusing in tone and sprinkled with a few psychic hints, this is a good choice.

Good story. Witches, it seems, lose parents and grow up with aunts. There is a _Practical Magic_ vibe to the set up, but the story goes in a different direction entirely. I enjoyed it.

I don't think the reader is the right one for this author. You know that kid in class who could read the assigned text aloud in class but didn't put emphasis in the right places? That's what this felt like. The voice was clipped, but the text had more fluid wording.I think a more drawling American accent might have fit better. This reader's voice is not terrible, but didn't quite fit. Still worth the listen though.

I enjoyed the presence of the animals here. I like that the protagonist went everywhere by bicycle in her small town. These were fun touches.
