My Version of Tom Clancy
Revisado: 06-27-22
I've read Tom Clancy's books and really have enjoyed Jack Ryan. But, this modern version of Jack Carr's James Reese hits home for me.
I completely and utterly threw myself into character and enjoyed the book the entire time. I kept thinking about how this was going to be translated into movie form and it wasn't hard to envision characters, scenes, and how each chapter would play out.
The reader Ray Porter did a fantastic job of interrupting and giving the characters their voice.
Overall, super fun, easy to listen to, and a suspenseful read.
Highly recommend. I am looking forward to his other books. Plus, I love to support our military men and women. Thank you for your service.

Historia
In February 1959, a group of nine experienced hikers in the Russian Ural Mountains died mysteriously on an elevation known as Dead Mountain. Eerie aspects of the incident—unexplained violent injuries, signs that they cut open and fled the tent without proper clothing or shoes, a strange final photograph taken by one of the hikers, and elevated levels of radiation found on some of their clothes—have led to decades of speculation over what really happened.

Not Bad Not Great
Revisado: 11-07-21
I have a love for mountaineering, alpine climbing, and overall winter adventures that challenge your character. I also for some reason Russia and Russian history. That being said, I was a sucker for the story.
I tried to love it from the beginning but I found myself feeling more like I've invested a certain amount of time into the story, I might as well finish it. I have this thing about finishing things/books/movies even if I know I am no longer sold on it. But, nonetheless, I found myself finishing it out.
Yes, I was not expecting the ending, but at the same time, the author seems to have wanted to write about a very interesting True Story but seems to have put little effort into much of the scientific evidence to base his ending on. It was a bit of a letdown. Yes, very interesting theory and story.
The narrator could have used some coffee and maybe try reading it early in the morning when he had more energy. It read like a coma patient flat-lining. One tone, one voice the entire time. I ended up making myself coffee just to stay awake.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Absolute Beauty
Revisado: 07-01-19
Kya Clark is one of those characters that resonates throughout my memories. Growing up in an abusive family with a father that drank too much and a family life that left me mostly alone, I walked with Kya throughout her life from the very first page of this wonderfully written book. Her character living with us like a roommate long after they had moved out.
The characters, the friendships, the relationships all woven in and out like moon shine and sun beams shading light on the goodness of people in the chapters of Kya's life, also revealing the darker side of her life.
Such a beautifully written book where words flowed much like the marsh water that smooths the rocks, shells and pebbles throughout the book.
Like most books that impact our lives, I found myself like many others, I'm sure, unable to put the book down or stop listening on Audible. I continue to think of how the book would end and yet not wanting it to end. Each character I partner with one of my own throughout my childhood to adult life. The lessons I promised myself I would implement into my current life and relationships.
I really love this book. I highly recommend this read or set aside some time to listen. Cassandra Campbell at first seemed like she wanted too much to sound the part, but soon became the parts to me. She gave Kya a voice along with the other characters as the chapters continued.
I highly recommend this book for everyone to read.
Hats off to Delia Owens.
