Marina Hyde & Richard Osman
Revisado: 12-05-23
Definitely recommend trying this podcast.
I'm biased because Marina Hyde is my favorite columnist (also bought her book) and I've read all of Osman's Thursday Murder Club books which is why I tune in to hear their opinions on topics I usually don't have any interest. I enjoy their interaction and learned alot about what is worth your time and what isn't.
Hopefully they won't just review Netflix material. I'm hoping for more time given to perhaps books or publishing given that they are both writers. (Or how much Reality TV has destroyed Society) given the rise of attention seeking behavior especially in politics. How Fox News & GB News are really just reality TV networks.
I have searched for the snooker documentary (perhaps it's not available in the US where I am) but I actually wanted to watch it based solely on their recommendation. (though I would not watch the squid game even if Osman loved it) I assumed the snooker doc would be on Netflix like Beckham and Robbie Williams.
Perhaps the show notes posts links or info on their discussions?

I Laughed So Hard I Actually Peed My Pants!
Revisado: 10-28-23
Honestly!!! Talk about Embarrassing Moments. Fortunately I was alone but still it's a reminder that we have to take time off for fun while we still can.
I was listening to EP 1 while I was laying in bed & it's truly been years since I have actually laughed out loud the kind that you can't catch your breath & by EP 2 I Honestly had to relocate to my bathroom where I was free to enjoy without embarrassment.
I have adored French & Saunders since the 1980 and this is such a treat.
I admit it, I am a woman of a certain age so its not exactly an uncommon situation. That said, it's very uncommon to laugh out loud and connect with the subject matter or experience shared in the series.
This series left me laughing as they touch on those truths that either we all think underneath or have personally done. "Pretending To Have Watched A Popular Show..." Haven't we all done the same but never let on? F&S recognize the humor in our everyday experiences and I'm so happy that they are still working hard on sharing theirs with us.
What a gift & a pleasure to have F&S continue to "Tit About". Not much else I would prefer to do than to spend time with these "National Treasures".
Well, Perhaps listening to them on a beach in Bali. Or better yet, actually seeing them perform live. Somewhere along the Cornwall Coast.
Yes, that would be the cure for what ails me. They are the kind of medicine that is a joy to partake in. Hoping for more to be available for my well-being sooner rather than later. As Oliver asked, "please sir, can I have some more?"

Historia
In this sequel to The Princess and the Goblin, Curdie has returned to his life as a miner and has dismissed the supernatural happenings of the past, believing them to have been a dream. When Curdie callously wounds a pigeon, his conscience leads him to Princess Irene's mystical great-great-grandmother for help. She has him plunge his hands into a pile of rose petals that burns like fire. Extraordinarily, this grants him the power to see what kind of "animal" a person is at heart.

A Timely Tale — everyone should listen
Revisado: 09-18-23
Excellent narration and a wonderful sequel to the Princess and the Goblin. Both are excellent lessons for our world today. Greed and power overwhelm humanity and it's clear that we may never ever learn how to combat selfishness.
I highly recommend no matter what age you are or your occupation.

A Tribute to Anyone Touched by Grief
Revisado: 09-17-23
Vanessa Redgrave reading from Joan Didion's theatrical version of her book is made all the more poignant as both women have experienced that greatest of losses in life,... the loss of a daughter. I listened in one sitting and it touched me like no other reading.
I highly recommend it to anyone not just for those who have lost someone they love but anyone who enjoys the experience of great prose coupled with a great performance.

Not sure about The New Yorker anymore
Revisado: 09-16-23
Susan Glasser is so loud & righteous it's sometimes unbearable to listen to her obnoxiousness. She's the epitome of how right wing media/GOP has poisoned reasonable journalism. I'd like her to let the others talk more, they are infinitely more thoughtful about what is actually going on and I learn from their insights. I can turn on Fox or any right wing media to get Glassers' worn out self-absorbed dialogue.
I expect more from the New Yorker than to normalize Trump's dictating to the Congress. Nobody discussing that this is demonstrably wrong and what should be done with a Cong purposefully trying to destroy the economy & the institutions to suit Trump.

Trump Intentionally Gave Christie Covid? WhoKnew

Kara is good at drilling down in her interviews — she doesn't waste anyone's Time, Today's show was insightful.
At a time when media has so thoroughly exploited the
scripted-reality-show-business-model, it's refreshing to not be herded into a narrowly defined demographic of validation seekers on pre-programmed subjects.
... Plus the Added Bonus of a few juicy tidbits from spreading Covid to fearing jail time- neither surprising.

GOP is taking action against Jared & SCOTUS judges
Revisado: 07-04-23
Not when George Santos is still there and McConnell is still keeping Kentucky in poverty.
This episode made it strikingly clear that monetized podcasting means shifting values towards what is actually shady business vs what the right wing decides is shady are not going to be able to find a connection.
Unfortunately this episode doesn't touch on the ongoing corrupt activities of Thomas/Alito & dark $ invading the high Court. Nor anything about Jared's clearly dangerous White House activities. But Hunter is a bad guy who cannot seem to rise to the extent of criminal activity of Jared's billions or the SCOTUS judges who are subsidized by billionaires bribing them for favorable rulings.
Jared happily traded his oath of office & classified Intel for at least $2 billion in personal windfall. I'm disheartened by the fact that this podcast has opted to drift rightward into the area that ignores the facts and uses the crazy caucus as a tool to monetize their podcast discussing the taste for impeaching Biden. I've yet to hear anything remotely close to this topic in regards to the Trump kids but the GOP hasn't got anything remotely close to a definition of criminal activity if it's in their own interests.
The media landscape is filled with right wing grifters and it appears the direction keeps the coffers filled enough that even those podcasts that once were interested in focusing on Truth are eager to grasp their piece of the pie. Money replaces Truth and values are being adapted for Cash. No longer matters how ignorant the podcast must degrade itself in order to keep financial backing. I'm curious whether democracy is for sale to almost anyone with a podcast, I'm disappointed by the direction.
