A Word of Caution

The author has an extremely low view of scripture. He argues largely that there is no point in seeking original documents or truth because the bible is all just re-worked, made-up tradition anyway. And then has the nerve to cynically "advise" the church to embrace the Septuagint out of the enertia of tradition and the calculations of utility. This book may have some limited use for scholars of arcanum and antiquities, who are more interested in Greek or historical intrigue than in the bible itself. If you are looking to grow in your understanding of God's word, I'd skip this one.

Way too many discussion questions and too little time in the story of King Solomon.

The content was excellent. The performance was pretty good--it could have been better if the narrator would have said "for example" instead of "e.g." all the time. There were other small things like that, but even the performance was pretty good. I enjoyed the book.

This is not "Christian" pastoral care. It is utterly sodden in leftist, Marxist, relativistic identity politics. Even if the politics were tolerable, the content is largely devoid of applicable guidance. In the author's defense, the aim of this work is more theory than manual. I suspect that most Christian pastors who are seeking a general overview of pastoral care are looking for something else.

No doubt, this is the best book ever written about getting along with others. Years ago, I read this book, thinking cynically that it would help me get what I wanted out of others. Instead, this book (in part) transformed me into a good person--and sometime blessing for friends, family, and community. I wanted to listen to this book again before a gave my son a copy.
