This was a good story. It’s generally a good read. Narration was believable.

My only real critical comment about this story was a break in the storyline that really was silly. Something whispered under the breath of the protagonist cannot be what ends up having major implications.

I like this author and will be reading the second book. But this story was far too gratuitously violent for my tastes. There were scenes that I almost fast-forwarded through because of the graphic violence. I think it took away from the story which was otherwise quite sweet. Additionally there was a strange dichotomy between the mentions of pink and that violence.

For anyone not bothered by graphic violence it is a good story and the narration is great.

There’s a sense of real and identifiable heartbreak that the author and narrators capture. There’s love and loss and heartache and happiness and the roller coaster ride of this story is well told. I highly recommend it.

I read book 2 and then read book one. After those I read this book. I hope there’s another. I lived all 3 of these books as I was reading them and loved each for different reasons. I think this may have been my favorite.

Travis Divine is truly human in all of the books. Here we get a piece of his relatability that’s so different from the others. There are bits that are predictable but not obvious. It’s an adventure to unwind it all.

I leave it to you dear reader. If you like Trsvis Divine, you’ll love him in this one.

I’ve now read many of this author’s books and this duet is my favorite do far. It’s jarring and emotional but not triggering like some of her other stories. I highly recommend this set.

I took a chance on this. I downloaded and listened for a couple of minutes but wasn’t certain. So I waited. Then on a plane it was one of few in my library already downloaded. So, I listened. And then for the next many, many hours I was a goner. This book is unexpected. It’s hard to imagine at first that the narrator could do justice to the story. It’s hard to imagine where it was going, at first. But this story is far deeper than the first hour seems. It is edgy and emotional and intelligent and more a mystery than a love story. It is quite different than this author’s other works. It is well worth the listen. I finished this book largely in transit. I found myself listening to in it. And it has left me thinking. It is a truly lovely story. Don’t let the first hour fool you .

This is my first book from this author. It’s now a new favorite.

I could listen to Zachary Weber as a Brit, as an American, as a whatever - all day long. That’s what drew my attention and I’m hooked.

This story was great. This book was fantastic. The narration was perfect. It was believable and not shallow. I’m looking forward to the next one.

I like these authors. The narration was fine. I didn’t love the male narrator’s over annunciation of fairly casual contractions. It felt a bit unnatural even for the starkness of the character.

As to the story - in general it was good. However, there are more than a few scenes that represent physical and sexual violence, if not outward rape. One scene in particular is hard to unhear and it is an integral part of the first story without being revisited in some sort of apologetic epiphany. Had it been toned down the scene would have been far better, more effective and less like the glorification of sexual violence.

It’s hard to not feel like the female protagonist is simply being bullied into falling for a violent rapist. And while he’s supposed to be depicted as a monster - those lines are far too uncomfortably blurred. Any reader will likely know the scene reference.

The third story in the trilogy is the best of the three. When taken together, however, it’s difficult to understand how this tale is not simply violence.

This was my second reading of this story. I will say that the male narrator is much better than the female narrator in this particular narration. She was somewhat whiny and nagging while he was able to convey a sense of emotion and darkness needed for his story. That’s not a dig on the female narrator. I’ve heard her elsewhere and it’s different.

Natasha Knight’s books are usually very dark, skirting the edge of consent and rape (sorry about that). I like the hard edges, the triggers I could avoid. This one was tamer. It was dark but it was more about how twisted the characters themselves were. They all were damaged in one way or another, some by circumstance and some by an inner soullessness. The story here had some interesting plot twists and she manages to provide depth to these characters.

I highly recommend this book. It’s almost better on the second read.

I listened to the entire duet in about 2.5 days. I fell asleep with the timer on and listened throughout the day. I think I’m going to listen again because I likely missed details I’d catch on a second read.

The female narrator was great - less so when she played the male voice. The male narrator was extraordinary and added a subtle sublime character and warmth when he narrated the female voice. He was the most perfect narrator for the depth and darkness of the characters.

There were moments when the story went far darker than I was comfortable with, though it was anticipated. There are moments that skirt the fine line between consent and rape that bother me. But the story gets a 5-star from me because that’s a matter of perspective. It doesn’t necessarily diminish from the story. It is however quite triggering.

The characters have depth here. Their views on the world are understandable given the environment in which they were raised. And with rare exception there is a palpable empathy that is endearing. That said, the true brutality is also well described. The scenes depicting violence are harrowing.

I recommend this story for those who like this author. For the uninitiated into this author’s storytelling- proceed with caution. This is a very dark romance.
