Not only is my boyfriend dead, but he left me with a sizable loan in my name to a mafia boss. When Dimitri Federov, a handsome, loaded Russian playboy, appears on my doorstep, I panic. He wants money to repay the debt. Money I don't have. The prick offers me a solution—pay with my body. I turn him down flat, but the indecent proposal remains in my thoughts, forever reminding me of what could have been…

First time reading this author and was a good read
Revisado: 01-04-25
This was a good story. It’s generally a good read. Narration was believable.
My only real critical comment about this story was a break in the storyline that really was silly. Something whispered under the breath of the protagonist cannot be what ends up having major implications.

A bit too graphically violent for my liking
Revisado: 12-04-24
I like this author and will be reading the second book. But this story was far too gratuitously violent for my tastes. There were scenes that I almost fast-forwarded through because of the graphic violence. I think it took away from the story which was otherwise quite sweet. Additionally there was a strange dichotomy between the mentions of pink and that violence.
For anyone not bothered by graphic violence it is a good story and the narration is great.

Historia
The man who ruled his empire with a cold head and an even colder heart. And most importantly, my son’s father. Except, he wasn’t aware of that little fact. To the media, Byron Ashford is a Billionaire King. To me, he’s a reminder of the hottest, most forbidden, night of my life. And my biggest mistake. I hadn’t seen him in years, and hoped we’d never cross paths again. But then, my best-laid plans always seem to go astray. Now, I need his help to bail me out of trouble. He’s a billionaire and I’m just a broke, debt-riddled surgeon.

6 years wasted…
Revisado: 12-01-24
There’s a sense of real and identifiable heartbreak that the author and narrators capture. There’s love and loss and heartache and happiness and the roller coaster ride of this story is well told. I highly recommend it.

Travis Devine has become a pro at accomplishing any mission he's given. But this time it’s not his skills that send him to Seattle to aid the FBI in escorting orphaned, twelve-year-old Betsy Odom to a meeting with her uncle, who’s under federal investigation. Instead, he’s hoping to lay low and keep off the radar of an enemy–the girl on the train. But as Devine gets to know Betsy, questions begin to arise around the death of her parents.

Utterly Poetic and Frighteningly Apropos
Revisado: 11-17-24
I read book 2 and then read book one. After those I read this book. I hope there’s another. I lived all 3 of these books as I was reading them and loved each for different reasons. I think this may have been my favorite.
Travis Divine is truly human in all of the books. Here we get a piece of his relatability that’s so different from the others. There are bits that are predictable but not obvious. It’s an adventure to unwind it all.
I leave it to you dear reader. If you like Trsvis Divine, you’ll love him in this one.

“You can’t marry him if you’re already married to me. That was how Silas Cruz proposed to me—more like demanded, really. He didn’t exactly give me a choice. He’s dark, jealous and incredibly possessive. And he’s just one of the villains in my story. I used to think he was my hero. Still, there’s one thing I know for sure. Whenever I need him, whenever I’m in danger, he comes for me. He’s proven that time and time again.

Unexpected. Emotional, Lovely
Revisado: 09-21-24
I took a chance on this. I downloaded and listened for a couple of minutes but wasn’t certain. So I waited. Then on a plane it was one of few in my library already downloaded. So, I listened. And then for the next many, many hours I was a goner. This book is unexpected. It’s hard to imagine at first that the narrator could do justice to the story. It’s hard to imagine where it was going, at first. But this story is far deeper than the first hour seems. It is edgy and emotional and intelligent and more a mystery than a love story. It is quite different than this author’s other works. It is well worth the listen. I finished this book largely in transit. I found myself listening to in it. And it has left me thinking. It is a truly lovely story. Don’t let the first hour fool you .

I'm naturally gifted on the field and between the sheets. With flashy cars and enough media attention to put the royal family to shame, I'm the definition of most eligible bachelor. Every man wants to be me, and every woman wants to tame me. Until Camila. The moment I lay eyes on her, I know I have to have her. She wants to keep me at arm's length. I want her naked in my bed. She says I'm bad news. I have three weeks to prove her wrong.

Revisado: 08-28-24
This is my first book from this author. It’s now a new favorite.
I could listen to Zachary Weber as a Brit, as an American, as a whatever - all day long. That’s what drew my attention and I’m hooked.
This story was great. This book was fantastic. The narration was perfect. It was believable and not shallow. I’m looking forward to the next one.

Darker and dark -.maybe too much so
Revisado: 08-26-24
I like these authors. The narration was fine. I didn’t love the male narrator’s over annunciation of fairly casual contractions. It felt a bit unnatural even for the starkness of the character.
As to the story - in general it was good. However, there are more than a few scenes that represent physical and sexual violence, if not outward rape. One scene in particular is hard to unhear and it is an integral part of the first story without being revisited in some sort of apologetic epiphany. Had it been toned down the scene would have been far better, more effective and less like the glorification of sexual violence.
It’s hard to not feel like the female protagonist is simply being bullied into falling for a violent rapist. And while he’s supposed to be depicted as a monster - those lines are far too uncomfortably blurred. Any reader will likely know the scene reference.
The third story in the trilogy is the best of the three. When taken together, however, it’s difficult to understand how this tale is not simply violence.

Forgive me. Those were the first words Santos Augustine spoke to me before we sealed an unbreakable oath. A contract signed in blood binding me to him as payment for my father’s sins. Wearing the mask of legitimacy, this powerful crime family has returned to Avarice to punish those who have wronged them and take what they’ve always been denied, a place among the elite. Forced to marry my enemy, I’m thrust into his world of secrets and betrayals. My husband is a dangerous man. And he has dangerous enemies. But it’s when I’m attacked that his fury is unleashed.

Interesting story with compassion
Revisado: 08-21-24
This was my second reading of this story. I will say that the male narrator is much better than the female narrator in this particular narration. She was somewhat whiny and nagging while he was able to convey a sense of emotion and darkness needed for his story. That’s not a dig on the female narrator. I’ve heard her elsewhere and it’s different.
Natasha Knight’s books are usually very dark, skirting the edge of consent and rape (sorry about that). I like the hard edges, the triggers I could avoid. This one was tamer. It was dark but it was more about how twisted the characters themselves were. They all were damaged in one way or another, some by circumstance and some by an inner soullessness. The story here had some interesting plot twists and she manages to provide depth to these characters.
I highly recommend this book. It’s almost better on the second read.

Dark, Very Dark, Unexpected
Revisado: 08-13-24
I listened to the entire duet in about 2.5 days. I fell asleep with the timer on and listened throughout the day. I think I’m going to listen again because I likely missed details I’d catch on a second read.
The female narrator was great - less so when she played the male voice. The male narrator was extraordinary and added a subtle sublime character and warmth when he narrated the female voice. He was the most perfect narrator for the depth and darkness of the characters.
There were moments when the story went far darker than I was comfortable with, though it was anticipated. There are moments that skirt the fine line between consent and rape that bother me. But the story gets a 5-star from me because that’s a matter of perspective. It doesn’t necessarily diminish from the story. It is however quite triggering.
The characters have depth here. Their views on the world are understandable given the environment in which they were raised. And with rare exception there is a palpable empathy that is endearing. That said, the true brutality is also well described. The scenes depicting violence are harrowing.
I recommend this story for those who like this author. For the uninitiated into this author’s storytelling- proceed with caution. This is a very dark romance.
