Historia
For much of the past five centuries, the history of the European continent has been a history of chaos, its civilization thrown into turmoil by ferocious wars or bitter religious conflicts - sometimes in combination - that have made and remade borders, created and eliminated entire nations, and left a legacy that is still influencing our world. This 36-lecture series from an award-winning teacher and honored scholar pursues an explanation for this chaos that goes beyond the obvious ones of political ambition, religious intolerance, the pursuit of state power, or the fear of another state's aspirations.

Historia
This book explores the dramatic difference between the Russian and US approach to warfare, which manifests itself across the whole spectrum of activities from art and the economy to the respective national cultures; illustrates the fact that Russian economic, military, and cultural realities and power are no longer what American "elites" think they are by addressing Russia's new and elevated capacities in the areas of traditional warfare, as well as cyberwarfare and space; and studies several ways in-depth in which the US can simply stumble into conflict with Russia and what must be done to avoid it.

Top shelf Russian agitprop with some hard facts
Revisado: 07-16-21
Yes the Soviets sustained the most damage did most of the heavy lifting and won WW2. Yes American weapons procurement is corrupt, incompetent iand outmoded, incredibly expensive pork barrel riddled with vulnerabilities. Yes, carrier strike groups are juicy explosive targets. And yes war sucks. Perhaps hidden in the waste there are secret and effective weapon systems and unadvertised capabilities that might win wars. Pain, destruction, suffering and mass murder are the price nations pay to test their strengths and vulnerabilities. Weakness invites attack, but over confidence invites self destruction. Nation states and standing armies are the enemies of humanity. Death and taxes, oppression, deception and aggression and destruction and death. Consider Syria. Stupid people make war and believe in victory where in reality everyone loses. The United States and Russia are both criminally negligent in wasting human potential to counterproductivily despoil and abuse their own nations and many others in the preparations for war and in active conflict. Pride in death and destruction is foolish. Real international strength lies in peace, progress and prosperity. Russian and American warlords lie, corrupt, poison and despoil the planet. Americans, Russians and Chinese need to work together for peaceful development and freedom. Their citizens are hostages in a vast epic history of cruelty, exploitation and war. Humanity loses everytime the great powers prepare for and make war. Russia can take a punch and punch back hard. It's is sad that humanity continues to behave like school yard bullies with WMDs. We are still as ignorant as ants.

Nothing offends liberals more than Western imperialism—it is racism, sexism, and chauvinism all in one. And of course the epitome of Western imperialism is the British Empire, covering at its height a quarter of the globe’s surface and ruling a quarter of the world’s population. Here, best-selling author H. W. Crocker III exposes how the British Empire was actually one of the greatest establishers and defenders of freedom in history.

Highly entertaining avalanche of lies
Revisado: 03-26-21
Mass murder, racisism and imperialist exploitation sugar coated and decorously obscured for popular consumption. Jolly good show. Pax Britannia? Savor mass murder as embodied by lopsided body counts. Terrifying and terrible imperial terrorism glossed over. A fascinating teeth bearing saber rattling celebration of centuries of racist state terror, murder, torture and oppression. Any well informed person can see through the author's stunning compendium of deadly lies. If you enjoy stunning narcissism and nativism this book will stroke your ego. A pleasant and enjoyable feel good discription par excellence of banality and stupifying evil couched in varnished and burnished bald faced manipulative lies. Nice. Enjoy!

Historia
Here at last is a history of England that is designed to entertain as well as inform and that will delight the armchair traveler, the tourist, or just about anyone interested in history. No people have engendered quite so much acclaim or earned so much censure as the English: extolled as the Athenians of modern times, yet hammered for their self-satisfaction and hypocrisy. But their history has been a spectacular one.

Serving as a powerful follow-up to Jordan Peterson’s book 12 Rules for Life, Dr. Gad Saad unpacks what is really happening in progressive safe zones, why we need to be paying more attention to these trends, and what we must do to stop the spread of dangerous thinking. A professor at Concordia University who has witnessed this troubling epidemic firsthand, Dr. Saad dissects a multitude of these concerning forces (corrupt thought patterns, belief systems, attitudes, etc.) that have given rise to a stifling political correctness in our society.

In an age of conflicting intellectual trends, some philosophers have lost faith in the everyday relevance of philosophy; others have affirmed that reflection is crucial to authentic living. The limelight has been shared by existentialism, phenomenology, structuralism, and other movements. The question remains: what is the next great step in philosophy?

Wild unfettered poetic insanity.
Humans are crazy and human philosophy and ideology is only even crazier if that is possible. The great thinkers of the 20th Century were as uninformed and dangerous to reason as those from any medieval epoch. Highly entertaining. Completely off the wall. A great listen. No wonder revolution, warfare, oppression, depravity and ecological degradation and it's all it's accompanying murderous apologetic and rethorical pseudojustifacations reigned supreme for that sorry Century! May we naively wish for a better 21th Century. So far it's seems to be just as disappointing...

Through studious research into past civilizations, Burnham diagnoses the 20th century and finds it afflicted with destructive, even "suicidal" tendencies - all of which arise from the “Liberal syndrome” and its inherent applications. The book explores several important questions, including why Liberalism clashes with Christianity and how Liberalism is a root cause of race riots and the rapid growth in crime.

Partisan polemtics trump's useful analysis
Revisado: 02-04-21
Great idea for a book. Very poorly executed. I am glad the author has opinions and an axe to grind. I want to learn from him and understand his viewpoints, but the author allows his bias to subvert the reasoned expression of his ideas. This book and the author turned an interesting subject in to a silly, feel good fairytale devoid of any real substance. While he succeeds in discirbing a few of the always evolving concepts and ideas of the dismal science, he creates nothing valuable or new, and merely slathers on superficial praise of conservative ideas. The book is intellectually dishonest and contains no useful new ideas. It doesn't improve understanding of any of the old obsolete ideas that it unconvincingly attempts to structure into it's incomplete rather silly and obsolete arguments for it's conservative agenda. I sincerely believe the author may believe that he means well, but if he got a real job and worked as a carpenter or a short order cook, he would not only understand the world better but in the light of this intellectual improvement due to real hands on work, and chastened by it's renumeration, he might perceive the limitations of his comfortable but poisonous bias. He doesn't understand freedom, oppression or opportunity. His economics is intellectually impoverished, unoriginal, distorted, blind, rootless functionally obsolete orthodoxy...a child's fairytale. With unimaginative practitioners like this no wonder economics is such a dismal science. Truly people are in chains everywhere weighted down with bad unbalanced and oppressive ideas such as those expressed in this divisive one sided book. The author fails to understand that the creative economic and political geniuses Smith, Marx, Keynes and Friedman all fail to deliver any complete or correct explanation of human political and economic systems. While this failure is manifest, each makes good points and bad points, but there are many useful ideas available to improve society. lnstead of a dishonest and bias approach designed to advocate for one perspective, a more useful description of each economic and political theory's strong points would have made this book more successful and useful. A hybrid political and economic system that utilizes the strengths of each political theory in the context of a free and informed, peaceful, positive goal orientated democracy will produce better results than slavish devotion to an single school of thought. Freedom, education, wealth, work and productive leisure, in short, sustainable and proliferating meaningful development of peacefully unified but creatively diverse human society is an obtainable goal, but Adam Smith's invisible hand and supply side economics can only be part of the economic and political tools employed to this end. Run amuck the invisible hand and supply side economics can and will wipe out most species on the planet out of existence while enriching a few and ultimately impoverish us all.

Historia
Whether pondering black holes or predicting discoveries at CERN, physicists believe the best theories are beautiful, natural, and elegant, and this standard separates popular theories from disposable ones. This is why, Sabine Hossenfelder argues, we have not seen a major breakthrough in the foundations of physics for more than four decades. The belief in beauty has become so dogmatic that it now conflicts with scientific objectivity: Observation has been unable to confirm mindboggling theories, like supersymmetry or grand unification, invented by physicists based on aesthetic criteria.

Smart honest science writing very well narrated.
Revisado: 07-07-20
Well crafted interesting and entertaining Hossenfelder does a remarkably good job of dispassionately outlining some of the cracks in the foundations of some of the popular threads in modern physical theory. While providing a great service to the physics community with the discussion of cognitive bias.
Math is a tool for accurately describing data and making predictions about the outcomes of experiments. When well formulated it can point to new discoveries but math is not science. Nature and physical processes ultimately determines the applicability of human invented mathematics, Hossenfelder seems to understand this unlike many of the math wielding secular metaphysicists which today dominate the space of ideas in quantum foundations.
