A sad tale of reality, well told. Sparce in length and the best for it. Enjoyed the male main character. Wonderful narration.

Historia
Everyone has a story to tell. But does Janice have the power to unlock her own? She can’t recall what started her collection. Maybe it was in a fragment of conversation overheard as she cleaned a sink? Before long (as she dusted a sitting room or defrosted a fridge) she noticed people were telling her their stories. Perhaps they had always done so, but now it is different, now the stories are reaching out to her and she gathers them to her.

unable to Finish
Revisado: 08-29-23
I believe I out grew stories of this sort many decades ago. Formulated and Gothic. Minimal development of Kate before traumatic event - left me without empathy. Anticipation of historical discovery of what connects these related characters is low on my scale. I could not establish a hook...unable to finish.

She could never make small talk at a party—or even get invited to one. And she prefers the company of her books, her dog, Shadow, and the Fair Folk to other people. So when she arrives in the hardscrabble village of Hrafnsvik, Emily has no intention of befriending the gruff townsfolk.

A beach listen
Revisado: 01-02-23
I really enjoyed the first part of the tale because I have loved horses all my life and suspect I have some tinkering ancestry - the description of vaulting/bare-backing was excellent. The second half of the story was too drawn out with the wavering thoughts of an adolescent and ended in fairy tale fashion.

I am a lit snob, increasingly so as I age. I will not live long enough to enjoy the many books I hope to read or to listen. This author is exceptional. This story is elaborate and so enjoyable. I highly recommend to those fearing the end of time.

Historia
Enchantment. By Dr. Sharon Blackie’s definition, a vivid sense of belongingness to a rich and many-layered world, a profound and whole-hearted participation in the adventure of life. Enchantment is a natural, spontaneous human tendency - one we possess as children, but lose, through social and cultural pressures, as we grow older. It is an attitude of mind which can be cultivated: the enchanted life is possible for anyone. It is intuitive, embraces wonder, and fully engages the mythic imagination - but it is also deeply embodied in ecology, grounded in place and community.
