Historia
Twenty-six-year-old Beatrice Hyde-Clare is far too shy to investigate the suspicious death of a fellow guest in the Lake District. A spinster who lives on the sufferance of her relatives, she would certainly not presume to search the rooms of her host's son and his friend looking for evidence. Reared in the twin virtues of deference and docility, she would absolutely never think to question the imperious Duke of Kesgrave about anything, let alone how he chose to represent the incident to the local constable. And yet that's exactly what she does.

Historia
Brilliantly executed and compulsively listenable, Unsheltered is the story of two families, in two centuries, who live at the corner of Sixth and Plum, as they navigate the challenges of surviving a world in the throes of major cultural shifts. In this mesmerizing story told in alternating chapters, Willa and Thatcher come to realize that though the future is uncertain, even unnerving, shelter can be found in the bonds of kindred - whether family or friends - and in the strength of the human spirit.

great once it got going
Revisado: 11-28-18
really enjoyed this story. it takes its time, which I liked. Also the juxtaposition of the historical events and the current events worked well for me.
I struggled to get used to the reader, I think she may be the author ? Anyway, the droning intonation took some getting used to but after a while she grew on me and I found it quite relaxing. It's a depressing yet hopeful view on today's society.

listened to this one, lived it so much i read part 2. think it's even better as a book but it makes for a great listen as well. i like that the main character is unconventional: Ruth is clever, overweight and frumpy and kicks ass. go Ruth!

made me look at tea in a whole new way!
Revisado: 10-24-17
Really, really enjoyed this book, mostly because it told a story about a world I knew nothing about, tea picking tribes in China. Loved the descriptions of daily life, found it really fascinating! Didn't like the whole (SPOILER!!!) aopted child story line. which was a shame because it was such a large part of the book. The thing that annoyed me most was that this very clever girl never bothered to learn even ONE word of Chinese. Anyway: great book, great reader!
