The Mongol army led by Genghis Khan subjugated more lands and people in 25 years than the Romans did in 400. In nearly every country the Mongols conquered, they brought an unprecedented rise in cultural communication, expanded trade, and a blossoming of civilization.

Brilliant!
Revisado: 06-19-17
This book certainly gives an entirely fresh perspective on the 'Mongol hordes' that supposedly raped the world. Genghis Khan is presented here as the greatest of world conquerors - far more civilised than any of his European rivals!

Historia
Born only five years after Pakistan was created in 1947, Imran Khan has lived his country’s history. Undermined by a ruling elite hungry for money and power, Pakistan now stands alone as the only Islamic country with a nuclear bomb, yet it is unable to protect its people from the carnage of regular bombings from terrorists and its own ally, America. Now with the revelation that Pakistan has been the hiding place of Osama bin Laden for several years, that relationship can only grow more strained.

Historia
In Israel and the West, it is called the Six Day War. In the Arab world, it is known as the June War or, simply, as "the Setback". Never has a conflict so short, unforeseen, and largely unwanted by both sides so transformed the world. The Yom Kippur War, the war in Lebanon, the Camp David accords, the controversy over Jerusalem and Jewish settlements in the West Bank, the intifada, and the rise of Palestinian terror are all part of the outcome of those six days.

Informative but not objective
Revisado: 03-23-17
Full of fascinating details and well written. Even so, the pro-Israel bias is only thinly veiled throughout. The author seems to believe that Israel's only desire is for peace. If only that were true.

The Impeachment of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for High Crimes in Syria and Libya

Historia
This book proposes the impeachment of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for high crimes in Libya and Syria. Michael Ostrowski and James Ostrowski, who heard their father condemn the Vietnam War in a speech in 1970, have teamed up to write a profoundly antiwar book. When you hear the title, you may be tempted to think it's a partisan book. But it's not. It's mainly an antiwar and anti-state book that is really four books in one.

Historia
The Apostle Paul was kind of a jerk. He was arrogant and stubborn. He called his opponents derogatory, racist names. He legitimized slavery and silenced women. He was a moralistic, homophobic killjoy who imposed his narrow religious views on others. Or was he? Randolph Richards and Brandon O'Brien explore the complicated persona and teachings of the Apostle Paul. Unpacking his personal history and cultural context, they show how Paul both offended Roman perspectives and scandalized Jewish sensibilities.

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-18-17
I had high hopes after reading the first book by these authors - Misreading Scripture through Western Eyes - but this was a real disappointment. The authors' loyalty to St Paul doesn't allow them to follow their arguments to their natural conclusions.

Historia
These 12 lectures by Professors Cook and Herzman will give you a rounded, fully informed introduction to the luminous Francis of Assisi and will tell the intellectually and spiritually rewarding story of how his influence has glowed across the centuries.Just who was Assisi? Despite his continuing influence and the fairly ample writings about him that date from his own time, Francis remains somewhat elusive in history. Yet these lectures expertly unlock two sources that are the most revealing and plentiful-written narratives of Francis's life and the images created for Franciscan churches.

Historia
Did the historical person Jesus really regard himself as the Son of God? What did Jesus actually stand for? And what are we to make of the early Christian conviction that Jesus physically rose from the dead? In this book, N. T. Wright considers these and many other questions raised by three controversial books about Jesus: Barbara Thiering's Jesus the Man, A. N. Wilson's Jesus: A Life, and John Shelby Spong's Born of a Woman.

Excellent scholarship and very readable
Revisado: 12-14-16
Wright has a gift for combining simplicity and profundity in his writings and this short book does not disappoint. And apart from the reader's consistent mispronunciation of one of the key scholars under review, the book is read very well.

But as Karen Armstrong demonstrates in St. Paul: The Apostle We Love to Hate, he also exerted a more significant influence on the spread of Christianity throughout the world than any other figure in history.
