Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

Excellent narration!
Revisado: 05-23-24
The story was made so much better by the narrator, Julia Whalen. I have listened to other stories told by her and she brings each one to life. I hear the voices of each character no matter the dialect. I would purchase my next audiobook based solely on her telling it to me. The book was very good also.

In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history. Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last.

I liked the book overall. Brittany is a sad but interesting woman and the telling by Michelle Williams made it easier to empathize with her.

Historia
Since 1929, Hollywood’s brightest stars have flocked to the Chateau Marmont as if it were a second home. An apartment building-turned-hotel, the Chateau has been the backdrop for generations of gossip and folklore: where director Nicholas Ray slept with his 16-year-old Rebel Without a Cause star Natalie Wood; Jim Morrison swung from the balconies; John Belushi suffered a fatal overdose; and Lindsay Lohan got the boot after racking up nearly $50,000 in charges in less than two months. Much of what has happened inside the Chateau’s walls has eluded the public eye - until now.

Hated it
Revisado: 10-20-21
Nothing like what I expected. Couldn’t make it through. I couldn’t even remember why the story went where it did, it was sooo cumbersome getting there. I stopped before the book ended ( something I NEVER do). If you like Jack Reacher don’t read this, it will sour you to the character.

I wait for the next Jack Reacher novel to come out as soon as I finish one. I like the character and have no problem with the known expectation of success at the end. When I listen to a Lee Child book I am thoroughly entertained, period. I enjoyed the narrator and will definitely order the next installment when it comes. Always an enjoyable read.

An unexpected pleasure
Revisado: 12-16-19
Let me start by saying that I am a sixty year old female who doesn’t normally gravitate to fantasy books. That being said, this book was the highlight of my month. The author wastes no time involving the reader ( listener) in the story, which starts off with a bang. The narrator ( Kate Rudd) was excellent and performed the characters with such precision that all of them came to life as I was listening. The female lead is a strong young woman who is interesting and capable. I thoroughly enjoyed going with her on her journey to exonerate herself and find her ancestry. Megan Haskell did an amazing job of taking me away to another realm while still telling a believable story. The ending was very appropriate. I highly recommend this for all ages and genders!!

Yes I Can is the self-portrait of one of the extraordinary men of our time, who became a figure of controversy because he dared to live his life not as a Negro but as a man. "I've got to be a star like another man has to breathe" writes Sammy Davis. "I've got to get so big, so powerful, so famous that the day will come when they'll look at me and see a man, and then somewhere along the way they'll notice he's a Negro."

When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

Very enjoyable
Revisado: 05-17-17
This book was recommended by a friend and college of mine. It changed my views about Megyn and what she stands for. Hearing her story brought back memories of similar incidents that have happened to me in my lifetime. Like her, I found the strength to rise above adversity and re- invent myself. Until she challenged Mr. Trump I didn't much care for her, but she is someone I now respect. As a woman who lives with, and loves a man who is a staunch conservative I watched Fox News and Megyn for several years and thought she was just like other journalists who sensationalize stories until the debate last year. I truly believe that, regardless of political party, people must first treat others with courtesy and not use junior high school tactics to bully others into behaving a certain way. I liked that she narrated the book herself and it kept my interest from beginning to end. Strongly recommended.
