What would have made When Bad Things Happen to Good People better?

He seems to be looking at this subject with many biases. I think he believes that people have to "understand" and "approve" a concept before it can be acceptable.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. :(

Any additional comments?

There were some good points, but I just have a very shallow impression of this book. After reading it, I felt depressed. I thought the book would help me constructively (in terms of my perspective of "bad things" and "good people"), but it only confused me even more. If a person believes in Torah and the writings of Scripture, it is difficult to make them compatible with this book. I was expecting a lot more.

What made the experience of listening to Toxic Parents the most enjoyable?

There is so much information in this book, it is difficult to narrow all of the applicable ideas down to just one. There are so many good points made throughout the book.

Where does Living a Life That Matters rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've listened to about 9 or 10 books so far. I'm a "newbee". However, I've physically read several books; I cannot even begin to count how many books I've read! This book is one of those "thought provoking" books. What I like about it is that it doesn't tell you how to think, but it makes you answer the questions that arise introspectively. This may be a disadvantage for the "hungry soul" such as myself. I'm not satisfied with only questions, I want to hear answers! I know that no one can tell you all of the answers, but this book will leave you thirsty. The thoughts are pretty interesting at the end, but there should be a part two or a workbook. Nevertheless, this book is about moral and ethical codes. If you're one who thinks about why they do what they do, or why they feel how they feel- you'd like this one!

Would you recommend Living a Life That Matters to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes. Most of my friends value the "ethics system".

Have you listened to any of Harold S. Kushner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I also have Psalm 23 in my library. Looking forward to it!

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

The one who is really sincere, will perform with integrity even without witnesses. Well, those were not the exact words, but that is the point! :)

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I recently purchased the Negative & Positive Commentaries of Maimonides rand I think this is a good book to listen to or read before reading those. They give you an understanding of the objective of the writings in a general sense. Good for someone who is interested in the study of philosophy and/or Judaism.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I wished it would have touched on history a little more. It starts out that way, but toward the end, it gets purely philosophical. I don't mind that because I also have an appreciation for philosophy, but for the individual who is seeking a prose aiming toward history, this may not be ideal.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When it said that we can only attain our own unique understanding of Divinity. Also, when it deals with the world being eternal and creation; etc. I also liked the part pertaining to the Preface when Maimonides addresses the acquirement of knowledge and how it should not be an accidental experience, else it can be faulty. Good point. The points made here are quite in-depth.
