Great sequel
Revisado: 06-19-24
Loved the continuation of the strong themes and informative tales as from the first book. Hope especially that male readers learn just a fraction of the collective histories strong women have overcome and the innate bias we still face from society, especially when men unduly deem themselves superior. women helped build the nation and lovely stories such as these are great reminders that we built the country as well.
The only thing I didn't like of the book was the "Lucy Maud syndrome"- meaning instead of continuation of allowing readers into the beloved characters from the 1st book (namely Cussy Mary and Jackson) it instead followed youth and told the story solely through another teenager. That is not a dig on Honey, just a wish that in this story we had more from our previous investment in their tale. I very much wished Bluit and Jackson would have been more prominent, and certainly by the wrap of the tale. Maybe that will be book 3?
The narrator is a wonderful addition. in fact, as much as I am sure the book format is great, I am very glad I had the narrator read it to me instead. she offered the extra dimension to the story.

Historia
Originally published in 1907, The Shepherd of the Hills is Harold Bell Wright's most famous work. In The Shepherd of the Hills, Wright spins a tale of universal truths across the years to the modern-day reader. His Eden in the Ozarks has a bountiful share of life's enchantments, but is not without its serpents.

HBW was a great American author telling stories few take the time to hear/read. As always, enjoyable. somewhat abridged version though, some of my favorite prose was missing. the reader was great though, minus his attempt to do female voices. the long, slow, patient style was perfect inflection of the story.

Historia
Slut. Shrew. Sinful. Scold. The 19th- and early 20th-century American women profiled in this collection were called all these names and worse when they were alive. And that’s just fine. These glorious dames earned those monikers, and one hundred years later they can wear them proudly! With irresistible charm and laugh-out-loud impertinence, New York Times bestselling author Therese Oneill chronicles the lives of eighteen unbecoming ladies whose audacity, courage, and sheer disdain for lady-like expectations left them out of so many history books.

ode to the women history wants us to forget. but doing so will let the men and causes they battled win. these are mini bios of great women in American history who fought against stereotypes and being told "no". very enjoyable, & told with engaging humor and sarcasm. I had only previously knew of 3, and even those I didn't know their true story. recommended.

Historia
Louis Comfort Tiffany, famous for his stained-glass windows, is planning a unique installation at the Paris World’s Fair, the largest in history. At their fifth-floor studio on Fourth Avenue, the artists of the Women’s Division of the Tiffany Glass Company are already working longer shifts to finish the pieces that Tiffany hopes will prove that he is the world’s finest artist in glass. Known as the “Tiffany Girls,” these women are responsible for much of the design and construction of Tiffany’s extraordinary glassworks, but none receive credit.

fine example of historical fiction
Revisado: 05-01-24
a pleasantly enjoyable historical fiction. only thin threads of accuracy to events, but the author creates a fiction out of "what could some of their stories be like, if the nameless women in history had a voice?" She did however get her glass tradecraft processes correct and allowed them to shine in the story as a character of its own. Mostly I loved the portrayal of the love of light that glass artists share.

Whatever happened to the Loyalists?
Revisado: 04-01-24
History is written by the victors, I enjoyed listening to the plight of the Loyalists after the war. However way too long with inconsequential details and big words. the whole thing could have been cut in half with just as much effect. would have also preferred a little more in the "during" the war, as it were it is only in the aspect of post-war. But interesting audiobook

Historia
The history of the Boston Tea Party is a hidden one. Why? Since it was a clandestine operation, all sorts of rumors and legends grew up around the event—many collected decades after the American Revolution had ended. At its core, however, the night of December 16, 1773, when colonials dumped tea from British ships into Boston Harbor, was more than a fight over tea and taxes. It was a struggle over the very nature of democracy and self-governance.

Historia
The tide is turning against the colonists in the Revolutionary War, and 18-year-old Elizabeth Morris cannot sit by idly. Quietly disdainful of her Tory parents, who drag her along to society events and welcome a British soldier into their home during their occupation of New York City, Elizabeth decides to take matters into her own hands. She realizes that, as a young woman, no one around her believes that she can comprehend the profound implications of being a nation at war - she is, effectively, invisible. And she can use this invisibility to her advantage.

Historia
Throughout history, women have played integral roles in family, society, religion, government, war - in short, in all aspects of human civilization. Powerful women have shaped laws, led rebellions, and played key roles in dynastic struggles. Some were caught up in forces beyond their control, while others manipulated and murdered their way to the top. However, unearthing their stories from the historical record has been a challenge, with the ordinary difficulties of preserving information across the generations increased by centuries of historical bias and gendered expectations.

Tom Felton’s adolescence was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame in beloved films like The Borrowers catapulted him into the limelight, but nothing could prepare him for what was to come after he landed the iconic role of the Draco Malfoy, the bleached blonde villain of the Harry Potter movies. For the next ten years, he was at the center of a huge pop culture phenomenon and yet, in between filming, he would go back to being a normal teenager trying to fit into a normal school. Speaking with great candor and his signature humor, Tom shares his experience.
