Historia
In his early 20s, Curtis Jackson, known as 50 Cent, rose to the heights of fame and power in the cutthroat music business. A decade ago, the multi-platinum selling rap artist decided to pivot. His ability to adapt to change was demonstrated when he became the executive producer and star of Power, a high-octane, gripping crime drama centered around a drug kingpin's family. The series quickly became "appointment" television, leading to Jackson inking a four-year, $150 million contract with the Starz network - the most lucrative deal in premium cable history.

This is a study of how intellectuals as a class affect modern societies by shaping the climate of opinion in which official policies develop, on issues ranging from economics to law to war and peace. You will hear a withering and clear-eyed critique about (but not for) intellectuals that explores their impact on public opinion, policy, and society at large.

challenging read that provided historical examples
Revisado: 03-22-21
i am still deducing this piece of literature. i have long held beliefs about criminal justice, economic inequality and societal "evils" that i know stem from a system designed to control my thinking. Therefore, being that my deepest intentions are to remain open-minded to what brings about solutions, some of those beliefs have been somewhat challenged by this book. having a masters in sw with a criminal justice from a historically black university i understand why. therefore this is a book that i must reread again to draw a more poignant conclusion of its merit. the author writes in a way as to provoke thought, though it appears on the surface to represent a somewhat "right wing" agenda. in actually it maybe the perception of my own cultural programming that sees it as such. in a quest not to further become an egoic intellectual. i have to righteously say, some points, through foreign to my " historical beliefs" may hold weight in the court of reasonableness. i am wise enough to realize that we all have been culturally programmed from birth through heavy indoctrination and personal perspective, within sects of society, the author included. therefore just as one reads Sowell, one should read a variety of economic/criminal justice works from other people of color, like the new jim crow, by Michelle Alexander, and from this era of publishing, in order to see more clearly how we as individuals add or subtract as an earth citizen to these topics. Sowell just came out with another book on charter schools in 2020 that i will also read to see how his theories have evolved or stayed the same in that respect.this 2009 published literary piece is a must read for the critical thinkers who claim to advocate for social and criminal justice Ase'

Here, Nassir Ghaemi draws from the careers and personal plights of such notable leaders as Lincoln, Churchill, Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., JFK, and others from the past two centuries to build an argument at once controversial and compelling: the very qualities that mark those with mood disorders—realism, empathy, resilience, and creativity—also make for the best leaders in times of crisis.

i am still doing a mental analysis on the info.
Revisado: 02-01-21
the author makes supportive arguments for his theory and those statements are worthy of further exploration for those who want clarity. clearly in my eyes the historical data supporting his overall conclusion is from a narrow perspective of eurocentric philosophy that can't quite naturally apply to all people who are not of European descent. if the author were to indicate that his theories were focused and made based upon the eurocentric philosophy and then left room for other theories to also be applicable that would be a more sound book.
