Historia
Mark Twight is a BANFF award-winner, an extreme climber, an extreme writer, and an extreme personality. No matter what he's doing, Mark Twight takes a definite, and often controversial , stand. Anyone who knows climbing knows Twight's name, and anyone who knows Twight's name will want to listen to this audiobook. Each story is told in Twight's taut, in-your-face style. Brand-new epilogues bring each piece full circle, providing updated information and fresh, hindsight perspectives.

Historia
A terrifying vision of scientific progress without moral limits, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein leads the listener on an unsettling journey from the sublime beauty of the Swiss alps to the desolate waste of the arctic circle. Obsessed with the idea of creating life itself, Victor Frankenstein plunders graveyards for the material with which to fashion a new being, shocking his creation to life with electricity. But this botched creature, rejected by its creator and denied human companionship, sets out to destroy Frankenstein and all that he holds dear.

Great story. Speaker didn't agree with my speakers
Revisado: 11-19-21
Frankenstein is a classic for a reason. The narrator's s was a bit too sharp coming out of my phone speaker. with the volume up loud in the car, that became pretty old pretty quick.

Historia
Based on four years of intensive primary document research, Lawrence in Arabiadefinitively overturns received wisdom on how the modern Middle East was formed. Sweeping in its action, keen in its portraiture, acid in its condemnation of the destruction wrought by European colonial plots, this is a book that brilliantly captures the way in which the folly of the past creates the anguish of the present.

Though you should make sure you have your names straight throughout. This book does a great job building on itself to illustrate a systematic picture of certain parts of the Middle East during WW1, but you have to put the work for recollection in to get the full benefit.

Historia
Colin Powell is the embodiment of the American dream. He was born in Harlem to immigrant parents from Jamaica. He knew the rough life of the streets. He overcame a barely average start at school. Then he joined the Army. The rest is history - including Vietnam, the Pentagon, Panama, and Desert Storm - but a history that until now has been known only on the surface.

Colin Powell delivers a total picture summary of his life in a way that provides inspiration and wisdom for Americans of all cloths. His attention to "having a clear purpose" for any military action stands as the most salient point, in my opinion.

Published in six volumes between 1776 and 1781, The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire - for all its renown - can be intimidating. It contains one point five million words, an estimated 8,000 footnotes, a cast of 10,000 historical figures, and a timeline of more than 1,000 years. Yet even today, Gibbon's historical chronicle demands to be understood.

Disconjointed
Revisado: 08-23-19
I didn't realize this was an audiobook about a book about the decline and fall of Rome. That was a let down. The audiobook jumped around too much for my taste, probably because the book itself jumps around the narritive. Furthermore, I think half of this book was given to analyzing the "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire"'s author abhorrence of Christianity. Though I'm eager for an honest assessment of my religious heritage, there are multiple points where book writer and master class author go too far in their cynical assumptions, particularly in areas of doctrine and church legacy.

Historia
Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics and Eudemian Ethics represent, in many ways, the Western classical springboard for the systematic study and implementation of ethics, the optimum behaviour of the individual. (By contrast, Aristotle’s Politics concerns the optimum blueprint for the city-state.) It is in the hands of each individual, he argues in these books on personal ethics, to develop a character which bases a life on virtue, with positive but moderate habits.

Swing and a Miss
Revisado: 08-22-19
Some books lend themselves to audio book form. This is not such a book. Aristotle's calculated, mathematical proof way thoroughness in argument cements this work as a slow read meant for books only. Plato's Republic would 've a better bet with its conversational rather than lecturer style.

Historia
In White Trash, Nancy Isenberg upends assumptions about America's supposedly class-free society. Poor whites were central to the rise of the Republican Party in the early 19th century, and the Civil War itself was fought over class issues nearly as much as it was fought over slavery. Reconstruction pitted poor white trash against newly freed slaves, which factored in the rise of eugenics. These poor were at the heart of New Deal reforms and LBJ's Great Society; they haunt us in reality TV shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Duck Dynasty.

Upsetting.
Revisado: 08-22-19
As a shielded public school student raised on skim milk history, I've just been delving into motivations and flaws of history. This book was an uncomfortable look at my inherited values.
America has an obscurely covert class struggle that is crucial to understanding both national and personal interaction.
