Very Entertaining
Revisado: 10-07-19
Quite a few laugh out loud moments. Perfectly narrated by the author. I certainly don’t share his leftist politics, but still found this very entertaining. A must for Python fans.

In American Brutus, popular historian Michael W. Kauffman delivers a history that reads more like a best-selling novel. This definitive masterwork dispels commonly held myths and reveals the truth about John Wilkes Booth. Luring Southern sympathizers into a “noble” presidential kidnapping, Booth stunned his puzzled pawns by murdering Lincoln. From Booth’s early life and acting career to his escape and death, this meticulously researched book re-examines it all using a wealth of primary sources.

Terrific exploration of the events and people surrounding the Lincoln assassination, both before and after. Remarkably well researched. I also thought that the narration was quite good.

Historia
"Marley was dead to begin with...." These chillingly familiar words begin the classic Christmas tale of remorse and redemption in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Now R. William Bennett rewinds the story and focuses the spotlight on Scrooge’s miserly business partner, Jacob T. Marley, who was allowed to return as a ghost to warn Scrooge away from his ill-fated path. Why was Marley allowed to return? And why hadn’t he been given the same chance as Ebenezer Scrooge? Or had he?

Amazing—Highly Recommend
Revisado: 12-31-17
If you love A Christmas Carol, I highly recommend this story. So unique. The author had me literally saying “Wow” aloud as I listened to this audio book. I was amazed how he flawlessly weaved such a fresh and clever take on the original story and maintained the same sense of awe and joy evoked by Dickens. Numerous times I found myself asking, “Ok, now how is he going to handle this event from the original storyline?”—only to be entertained in a way I couldn’t see coming. Simon Vance, as usual, is impeccable. So thrilled to have found this one. I’m going to try and get my hands on a hardback edition.

Historia
William Shakespeare, the most celebrated poet in the English language, left behind nearly a million words of text, but his biography has long been a thicket of wild supposition arranged around scant facts. With a steady hand and his trademark wit, Bill Bryson sorts through this colorful muddle to reveal the man himself.

Very enjoyable
Revisado: 06-12-16
Concise, but enjoyable biography. I particularly like the discussions dealing with the ridiculous anti-Stratfordians. Yes, Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare. I thought this and Schapiro's book are the two best I have come across dealing with the authorship issue. In any case, I would recommend this book for anyone interested in Shakespeare.

Historia
Breakfast of Champions (1973) provides frantic, scattershot satire and a collage of Vonnegut's obsessions. His recurring cast of characters and American landscape was perhaps the most controversial of his canon; it was felt by many at the time to be a disappointing successor to Slaughterhouse-Five, which had made Vonnegut's literary reputation.

Not one of his better ones
Revisado: 12-12-15
I love Kurt Vonnegut (and here there is a picture of a big heart). However, I don't believe that this is one of his better stories. Of course, he admitted it was not one of his better stories. In addition, because the drawings make the book a little more enjoyable, not having them makes it a little less enjoyable. John Malkovich (and here there is a picture of a bald man) does an OK job. However, his voice comes across as a bit bored.I'm curious how I would've experienced the story with a different narrator (and here there is a picture of a big question mark).

Wanted to like this
Revisado: 08-27-15
The narration was fine. The story just seem to drag on, and there really wasn't much excitement until near the end, and even that was a little corny. Overall, a fairly dull story.

Remarkable first novel
Revisado: 04-27-15
I thought it amazing that this was his first book. It is extremely well written and entertaining. I thought the narration was quite good as well. Although it seemed that the same voice was used for a number of different characters, it was still easy to follow the narration. I would definitely recommend this book.

Historia
By 1920, the movies had suddenly become America's new favorite pastime and one of the nation's largest industries. Never before had a medium possessed such power to influence; yet Hollywood's glittering ascendancy was threatened by a string of headline-grabbing tragedies - including the murder of William Desmond Taylor, the popular president of the Motion Picture Directors Association, a legendary crime that has remained unsolved until now.

Revisado: 04-02-15
I was interested in learning more about the silent film era. This was an ideal book to start with. I had never heard of William Desmond Taylor, in his murder was obviously a critical event in film history. It was great to learn about the surrounding cast of characters as well. I highly recommend if you're interested in murder mysteries or the 1920s as well.

Historia
A tragedy, a comedy, and a history all rolled into one, the story of the tyrannical Richard III ranks among Shakespeare's most popular plays. Opening with the famous "Now is the winter of our discontent" soliloquy, this masterful work follows its antihero as he plots to steal the throne of England, causing murder and mayhem all along the way. A full cast, including Robert Stephens and Dame Peggy Ashcroft, brings this devilishly entertaining work to life.
