Historia
He is plainly too young and too inexperienced for the mission, but on the advice of her aged adviser Natoum, and with her husband off at war, the queen reluctantly assigns the task of delivery to...Madrenga. Accompanied only by a runt of a pony and a scrap of a pup, he sets off to transport the royal message to its destination. No matter what it might take. But things are not always what they seem. Heroes are sometimes made of the strangest stuff, and love is to be found in the most unexpected places...if one doesn’t die while treading the lethal path.

Very well written. I just finished in the parking lot at work (hospital) on Christmas Eve morning.

Historia
For Durzo Blint, assassination is an art---and he is the city's most accomplished artist, his talents required from alleyway to courtly boudoir. For Azoth, survival is precarious, something you never take for granted. As a guild rat, he's grown up in the slums and learned to judge people quickly---and to take risks. Risks like apprenticing himself to Durzo Blint. But to be accepted, Azoth must turn his back on his old life and embrace a new identity and name.

Still holds my attention after the 5th listen

This is a great series, which so far surpasses the "Light Bringer" series. Although I enjoy Simon Vances reading more ("Tigana" being his best, in my option at least).

Historia
Tigana is the magical story of a beleaguered land struggling to be free. It is the tale of a people so cursed by the black sorcery of a cruel, despotic king that even the name of their once-beautiful homeland cannot be spoken or remembered.
But after years of devastation, a handful of courageous men and women embark upon a dangerous crusade to overthrow their conquerors and bring back to the dark world the brilliance of a long-lost name: Tigana.

Great narrator meets great writing...for me at least...
Revisado: 06-30-15
I thought I had listen to many of the great fantasy authors. I was wrong and glad to be so!
If I had one complaint it would be that there was great character development and plot development within the first 15 hours and the conclusion seemed to come rapidly in the last five hours. I know my opinion is influenced by the fact that I am not used to having a single book containing both the beginning and end.
Simon Vance is awesome!!
All I can say though is "TIGANA!!"

Moved to Tears
Revisado: 04-03-13
If you could sum up Deadhouse Gates in three words, what would they be?
Betrayal Sorrow Loyalty
Who was your favorite character and why?
It is difficult to choose a single character, as each has his or hers own intertwining story line. To do so is, in my opinion, crass and presumptuous.
Have you listened to any of Ralph Lister’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He is a great reader. One has to listen carefully though, as he tends to increase or decrease volume depending on character. I am able to follow characters on the voice alone.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Coltaine's and Duiker's death.
