If you struggle with emotional eating, this is a great book. The author comes across as kind, loving and understanding. It will really make you question the roots of why you eat. Two thumbs up.

What the Heck Is She Talking About?

Total
1 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 04-29-11

I am a fan of Geneen Roth's work. Her book on Breaking Free From Emotional Eating was excellent. So I was looking forward to this new book. Unfortunately I was very disappointed.

While she does have some excellent points in the book - they are few and far between. And in the between you're forced to listen to the author spouting this feely-feely spiritual mumbo-jumbo nonsense (how you should meditate, you are the essence of god, etc., etc.).

I found myself getting frustrated many times going "What the heck is she talking about?". A lot of it really made no sense. As a reader, I felt insulted.

I think Ms. Roth has jumped the shark with this book. She should probably stick to writing about emotional eating instead of turning people off with all of her spiritual rantings.

Great Practical Success Book For Christians

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 11-21-10

This book is a great practical success book for Christians. I like Pastor Stanley's statement that it's your direction, not your intention, that determines your destination. It's not what you want to do or plan to do - it's the little habits you indulge in every day - that will eventually lead you to your final destination. Great truth that will set you free to achieve the best in your life.

A Little Hokey - But Some Good Principles

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 11-21-10

I found the book very much like a new-agey therapy session - and a bit hokey in parts. But there are some good principles in there. Personally I liked her book 'Breaking free from emotional eating' much better. However if you can get over the new-agey stuff, the book is quite good.

Boundaries Audiolibro Por Dr. John Townsend, Dr. Henry Cloud arte de portada

A Classic Christian Book

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 11-21-10

This book is incredible. So many of us were raised without any boundaries or with boundaries that were too harsh. So we developed problems later in our lives as our own boundaries are messed up and we don't even realize it. This book will teach you what a life with healthy boundaries look like - along with Biblical examples. I loved the part where Dr Cloud and Dr Townsend point out that we are to be active (not passive) agents in our own lives and that we have a responsibility to let people know where are boundaries are (instead of just getting hurt, keeping it inside and never saying anything). This book is highly recommended and well worth your time.

Great Book - Well Worth Your Time

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 11-21-10

I always enjoy David Jeremiah. He explains things well and backs up his premises with solid research and examples. He writing is fair, balanced and interesting. If you're concerned about where we're headed in North America - read this book and get ready.

The Eden Diet Audiolibro Por Rita M. Hancock arte de portada

Awful, Awful, Awful

Total
1 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 11-21-10

I did not enjoy this book and found it one of the most poorly-written weight loss books I've ever read/listened to. While some of the ideas behind it do work (I have lost 20 lbs myself using many of these methods), the content itself was flawed in parts ( for example, the author - a doctor - recommends drinking green tea since it has no caffeine in it - which is wrong, green tea does have quite a bit of caffeine in it).

Also, the author comes across as arrogant and smug (or perhaps it was just the way it was narrated?). And while I am a Christian, I was very turned off by the author's flippant answer to what to do when you feel like binging - "just pray". That's it? If it were that easy, Christians should be the skinniest people on the planet.

I don't recommend this book if you are struggling to lose weight or overcome emotional eating. There are other books out there that are much better like 'Thin Within' by Judy Wardell (try to get the older 1980s version), 'Weigh Down Diet' by Gwen Shamblin (Christian) or 'Breaking Free From Emotional Eating' by Geneen Roth (non-Christian)
