Historia
Sookie Stackhouse has one last adventure in store. Life has taken her from a waitress in Merlotte's Bar, Bon Temps, to part owner; from social outcast to the heart of her community; from a vampire's girlfriend to the wife of one of the most powerful vampires in the state. She has survived explosions, revolutions and attempts on her life. Sookie has endured betrayal, heartbreak and grief...and she has emerged a little stronger, and little wiser, every time. But with life comes new trials...

Did someone else write it?
Revisado: 11-16-13
Did someone else write it? Why was it so different? Was it rushed?
I am not a huge fan of the vampire genre but was attracted to this series because of the heroine's name. With a name like Sookie, I thought, there has to be some humour. It wasn't all funny but it did get me hooked regardless.
I loved the first books in the series, but like many others whose reviews I have read, I have been disappointed in the last two or three, especially the last one. All the fun and sparkle seemed to have disappeared. This last book was exceptionally dull comparatively with the most feebly developed characters taking the lead.
After thirteen books a reader/listener can't help but have an investment in the characters and I feel that the story lines of the main characters were rushed towards the end. Throughout the series we were shown one thing about the characters that didn't match up with the ending at all. I was left feeling empty and deflated because this series finished like a balloon letting out air slowly, complete with the whining noise which was Sookie.
The Southern Vampire Mysteries had hardly any vampires or vampire action in the last book, and the heroine finished up with the boring, brotherly shifter! It was almost incestuous for me. OK, I get it - but I wish the author had included a bit more "couple" development for Sam and Sookie so that it was satisfying and more believable. Also, with a vampire series one expects suspense and bad boy love so why have such a safe ending which translates into boring.
I am really trying not to question the author's plot as it is her concept not mine and I am not going to recommend anyone not read the book because if you're like me you will want to make up your own mind especially after reading all the others in the series. Personally, I have rarely felt this disappointed.

Boring
Revisado: 08-18-13
Really boring and ridiculous bondage type erotica using big, bad, boy (don't forget sexy) demons. Very unimaginative writing. What a waste of time. Couldn't be bothered finishing.

A Shame Really
Revisado: 08-18-13
This book had the potential for a really good storyline. Unfortunately the plot was lost amidst the ridiculously predictable erotica.
I enjoy a good, steamy, well written love scene as much as anyone however, the "love" scenes in this series are all boring, unimaginative and over the top. But hey! - Whatever rocks your boat.

Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard; the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But when their beloved father falls ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters.

Thank You
Revisado: 08-01-13
Where ever it is, whatever the reason, who ever is there - war savages humanity. Why is it women are more victims of the brutality than men!
This story is well told and heart wrenching. The vividness of the horror is something that will stay with me especially as I know it to be an accurate portrayal of the circumstance even if the characters are fictional. Hopefully it will help me see more beauty and be more grateful for the peace that surrounds me.
From a personal viewpoint - as the offspring of a World War II veteran and having lost loved ones to Vietnam I can attest as to how war continues its horrific embrace on all members of a family. Thankyou Kristin for helping me to release some of my own demons.

A Good Story But ...
Revisado: 07-30-13
The suspense, adventure and intrigue were the best parts of this tale.
The romance & love scenes were a nice sideline but there was too much. A bit of a shame actually. I think the book would have been presented more accurately with a different title and cover picture.
Simon Prebble never fails to delight.

Not Bad BUT .......
Revisado: 07-28-13
For the genre it was quite good. Elizabeth Lowell is a good storyteller. It is a shame about the narrator.
The narration by Anne Flosnik wasn't too bad except her interpretations of male characters was absolutely deplorable - especially the main male character. It was embarrassing to listen to and I cringed everytime, especially during the love scenes. It is a shame because I quite liked her accent. I will think hard before listening to her again.
Good news that someone else is narrating the next book in the series. Hopefully it will be an improvement.

Love the Story
Revisado: 07-22-13
The storyline is fabulous with Pirates aaaaarh, and ghosts ooooooo. Mystery, romance and relatable characters. Love it. Descriptive writing leads me to think I'd love to visit Key West.
I continue to be slightly disappointed with Angela Dawe's narration. I found that she read much too fast and while her accents were good it was difficult to tell if a man or woman was talking. Slightly confusing.
Nevertheless - A good series.
