Revisado: 02-12-14
I am not much of a music connoisseur, but I enjoyed this book anyway. Davis tells a great story, a personal story that just happens to weave in a lot of musicians and places that are famous today. Great listen.

Historia
Clare Balding grew up in a rather unusual household. As her father is a champion trainer, she shared her life with more than 100 thoroughbred racehorses, mares, foals, and ponies, as well as an ever-present pack of boxers and lurchers. As a toddler she would happily ride the legendary Mill Reef and take breakfast with the Queen. She and her younger brother came very low down the pecking order. Left to their own devices, they had to learn life’s toughest lessons through the animals, and through their adventures in the stables.

Great books transport you to places you have never been to or could go to. This is such a book. I traveled to England and to another time and a place where horses and to lives built around them. Great story, engaging storytelling. Highly recommend it.

Historia
In this luminous memoir, Rita Moreno shares her remarkable journey from a young girl with simple beginnings in Puerto Rico to Hollywood legend - and one of the few performers, and the only Hispanic, to win an Oscar, Grammy, Tony, and two Emmys. Born Rosita Dolores Alverio in the idyll of Puerto Rico, Moreno, at age five, embarked on a harrowing sea voyage with her mother and wound up in the harsh barrios of the Bronx, where she discovered dancing, singing, and acting as ways to escape a tumultuous childhood.

What a story! Definitely worth a listen!
Revisado: 02-12-14
I confess not to know much about Rita Moreno before reading this book, and I learned not just about her, but about another time and way things were done. Moreno has a great immigrant story with ups and downs and a view into a world I did not know about or that was just a vague sketch instead of the harsh reality of the author. Highly recommend it.

Not quite your standard memoir, It's mostly short stories instead of one coherent piece. It is nevertheless enjoyable and insightful. I learned about her life, the TV and movie business and what it was like growing up in her time.

Historia
Charming, engaging, and surprisingly forthright, Michael Caine gives us his insider's view of Hollywood and the story of his brilliant second act. When he was in his late 50s, Michael Caine believed his Hollywood career had come to an end. The scripts being sent his way were worse and worse. Salvation came in the unlikely form of his old friend Jack Nicholson, who convinced him to give acting one more shot. What followed was one of the most radical comebacks in film history.

Likeable guy with great story.
Revisado: 02-12-14
Perhaps it's because he is an actor, but the narration is superb. This book made me smile, laugh and thouroughly enjoy myself. I did not know much about Caine before this book, and I definitely respect him more and view him in a different light after reading this book. Worth every penny or worth the credit to buy it. Definitely worth a listen.

Great narration by the author, with stories that may at times shock or appall. If you find swearing distasteful, or are prudish and think drug, sex and booze amoral, this books is not for you. Great stories, and insights into the restaurant business, but mostly into this man's life. Highly recommend it.

Historia
Arthur Conan Doyle never wasted time in getting his stories moving. His plots are always direct and refreshingly lucid, and the narrative has a velocity that sweeps you along right to the end. This was no doubt a large part of his immense worldwide success. Not surprisingly, each time he tried to end the series, his fans would howl in protest. But, as he says in the preface to his last collection of Sherlock Holmes stories, all good things must come to an end.

Countless hours of entertainment
Revisado: 02-12-14
Whether you are acquainted with Sherlock Holmes or not, this series is sure to please. Like other comments my only complaint is the voice the narrator chooses for women and the way it makes women seem like weaklings. However that is one minor complaint in a great collection.

Historia
After three acclaimed novels - The Russian Debutante's Handbook, Absurdistan, and Super Sad True Love Story - Gary Shteyngart turns to memoir in a candid, witty, deeply poignant account of his life so far.
Shteyngart shares his American immigrant experience, moving back and forth through time and memory with self-deprecating humor, moving insights, and literary bravado. The result is a resonant story of family and belonging that feels epic and intimate and distinctly his own. Provocative, hilarious, and inventive, Little Failure reveals a deeper vein of emotion in Gary Shteyngart' s prose.

Great story, wonderful narration!
Revisado: 02-12-14
The narration complements the text wonderfully. I am not sure the author could have done better himself. The narrator has different voices for the author as adult, as child, for his father etc. It is a wonderful performance and you will not want to stop listening. Absolutely worth it. I can see myself listening to this at another time, and perhaps even reading Shteyngart's books.

In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Better than the movie. Of course!
Revisado: 08-07-12
With multiple narrators this book is a great buy. You may have seen the movie, but you will love the book. I resisted getting the book, but after learning of the multiple narrators I gave in and I was thoroughly and pleasantly surprised. The picture painted by the narrators is almost as good as a movie, but better because your imagination is so much richer! A well spent credit, even though I seldom get nonfiction the topic is so rich it is not just any story. It may seem like an exaggeration, but this book deserves all the five stars!

Unique story, a life you could not imagine!
Revisado: 08-07-12
Great, fun read, and informative read. This book provides insight into a bit of colonialism, Africa, and relations among peoples and families. More importantly it provides a great insight into what life was like during Colonial times in Rhodesia or Kenya. Fuller writes about her family, their dreams, their lives, and their faults with frankness and love. I bought this book during one of their sales and I was not disappointed. Though I did not read her first book "Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight" I was able to thoroughly enjoy this book. If you thought your childhood was tough, or your family was eccentric read this book and you will realize that maybe your life was relatively normal. The performance is not 5 stars because the narrator's voice, or accent takes a little getting used to.
