I was hesitant... but so glad I read this book!
Revisado: 01-27-22
A friend recommended this book to me and so I got it but put off reading it for awhile. I'm not one for any type of non-fiction usually so I had low expectations of me enjoying this book... but boy was I wrong!! I was pulled in so quickly and just enjoyed learning vicariously through the author's experience and her client's experiences. I struggled putting it down when life occurred and breaks had to be taken. It made me laugh, cry, and reflect on myself.
I have been recommending this book to everyone I know so if you want a fun read you can learn something from, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!

Historia
From the 1920s to 1950, Georgia Tann ran a black-market baby business at the Tennessee Children’s Home Society in Memphis. The publication of Lisa Wingate’s novel Before We Were Yours brought new awareness of Tann’s lucrative career in child trafficking. Adoptees who knew little about their pasts gained insight into the startling facts behind their family histories. Encouraged by their contact with Wingate and award-winning journalist Judy Christie, who documented the stories of 15 adoptees in this book, many determined Tann survivors set out to trace their roots.

Definitely recommend. Thank you to Lisa and Judy and those willing to share their stories. I'm saddened that this happened but I'm glad that people are talking about it so we don't make the same mistakes. We all need to speak up and stand up for what's right!
