Not great… at all

Loved the first of the series… wondering how this could be written by the same author.
Character development is lacking and often the characters actions/thoughts do not align with who the character is supposed to be. For example, the main heroine is an experienced healer trained by her physician father… someone who has enough skill that she impressed a Harvard trained doctor to the point that he changed his mind about women as doctors, yet she didn’t know about false labor and did not know she was pregnant later in the book.

The book was a solid 4 hours too long. Had plenty of potential if the storylines were developed properly.

The intimacy between the main characters was also introduced way too quickly. The ease of the main character giving up her virginity made very little sense. I get it was a time of war, and maybe the author was trying to convey the way war can change one’s stance on moral convictions, however it was not developed.

Overall, great potential, lazy writing. Dud.

Loved every book… this one was a great ending to a very entertaining series. Only disappointment is that it’s the last one. Narration was wonderful. Storyline was unique and well developed. Characters easy to like (or hate.)

Almost didn’t purchase due to reviews but glad I did

I am a fan of both Julia Quinn and Eloisa James. Both are very talented writers and I tend to enjoy most of their period romances. I am also a fan of both Rosalyn Landon and Susan Duerden. I actually had a harder time getting into Julia Quinn’s novel then Eloisa James. I enjoyed the overall character development and the storyline more. I also enjoyed the narration of Susan Dureden more, too. Although I do agree, male Scottish voices are not her strong suit and the voice of the uncle was tough to get used to, I thought she did a great job throughout the novel. I like Rosalyn Landon, but in my opinion every novel sounds the same. I also felt like Julia Quinn’s novel was lacking… once I finally got into the grove of a pairs love story the storyline quickly moved onto new characters. I would have preferred more… it felt rushed.

Overall, i feel it was well worth a credit.

I always steer clear of the continuations of Jane Austin’s Novels... how do you top perfection??? After reading the reviews, this particular alteration of Pride and Prejudice grabbed my attention. I am so glad I went for it. It was wonderful. I loved the way the author used many of Austin’s techniques of satire and character development, but gave the reader a much more in-depth look at the development of love.
As I have read pride and prejudice many times, I will do the same with Unequal Affections (I think I like this alternative ending better!)

I didn’t Hate it... didn’t love it either

It wasn’t as bad as I expected, based on the reviews. I usually read the reviews as I begin to listen... I typically find I have similar opinions as the reviews. With this book, I read the reviews first and put off listening as I have listened to other books that I would consider drug out and way too much angsts. I did not enjoy them. I’ve also listed to other books narrated by Anne Flosnik, also did not enjoy them. As a narrator, I feel she does well with the voices of the characters in this particular novel, but her over all dramatic tone of the narration is soooo over the top. It is very distracting aa d takes away from the story line.

Glad I continued after the first disaster.

Honestly, the first one made me cringe more times than I can count. It was hard to get through. I only listened to this one bc reviews for the first said it got better. I am glad I did. There were parts that were reminiscent of what annoyed me in the first, but no where near as bad. I wish I listened to this one first and then listened to the first of the series… I think I would have liked the main character of the first one, Alex, much better.

Book 2 has a heartwarming storyline. It follows a similar formula as the first; however, the dialogue is 1 million times better and the characters are more relatable.

Ending brought me to tears. I wish the epilogue was extended. I would love to hear the story of how the extended family grows.

Looking forward to the third.
