Historia
To Love and Be Loved is a firsthand account of Mother Teresa’s last years, and the first book ever to detail her dealings with worldly matters. We see her gracefully navigate the opportunities and challenges of leadership, the perils of celebrity, and the humiliations and triumphs of aging. We also catch her indulging in chocolate ice cream, making jokes about mini-skirts, and telling the president of the United States he’s wrong. Above all, we see her extraordinary devotion to God and to the very poorest of His children.

Best book I've read in a long time
Revisado: 04-02-24
I picked up this book as an admirer of Saint Mother Teresa, but didn't read it right away. That was a mistake. First, this boy can write. And he can read. Some great writers are simply terrible narrators. In fact, most are not great narrators. And for some other books, you can tell the narrator is not invested in the the book because they mispronounce words that should be obvious if they knew the subject matter. This is a rare find where the writer is excellent at both. The strength of the book is giving us a portrait of Mother Teresa that makes you feel that you know her. It was at times laugh out loud funny, and at others made my heart ache. Now that might be a banal description of what anyone might say about a book they liked, except that I don't do any of these things with any book that I like except this one. This is no porcelain hagiography. It is a portrait of a person. A wonderful person. A beautiful person, and this book made me want to be more like that person. So I guess in that sense it is one of the best hagiographies I've read. Good job on this one. Out of the hundred of audiobooks, this is in my top three. It's great. Saint Mother Teresa, pray for us.

One of the best books on audible
Revisado: 02-01-24
On occasion I pick up miracle story anthologies, but to be honest, sometimes I find the stories rote, even to the point to leaving the book for a bit until I gather enough interest again. Perhaps it's because I already believe, and stories of sanctity and miracles don't offer more in regard to the holiness of the persons I'm already convinced of.
This book is different. The stories here are touching, meaningful and well-told about Our Lady and those she touches in great and everyday ways. The author is the narrator, and she is a rarity as one who can both write and narrate better than any writer I've heard to date, and I have three to four hundred audio books with many read by the authors whose general reading ability is, shall we say, uneven.
This book is a find. It was eye-opening, emotional, and something that brings you closer to the mother of us all in the mother of Jesus. Doesn't get better than that. Thank you author. Thank you Blessed Mother.

Historia
While the Gospels relate only the barest essentials concerning the physical suffering of Jesus, Dr. Pierre Barbet addresses these gaps with scientific inquiry. A Doctor at Calvary provides a forensic pathologist's analysis of the Holy Shroud of Turin, which reveals the graphic account of Jesus' suffering at the hands of the Romans. Through a modern medical lens, Dr. Barbet examines the methods of infliction and physiological effects of each wound. He also delves into the historic practice and mechanics of crucifixion.

The best book I've listened to in a long time
Revisado: 04-21-23
This deep investigation of the injuries of the man on the shroud, even as old as the book is, is perhaps better than any other analysis I've read, and I've read everything I can get my hands on with regard to the Shroud of Turin . The reader is satisfactory, as you overlook some of his missed pronunciations of frankly even some basic words, which he does somewhat frequently. But the work is worth it. The reflection at the end is especially poignant. Excellent book, which I can't recommend highly enough.

Historia
Successful New York psychiatrist Richard Gallagher was skeptical yet intrigued when a hard-nosed, no-nonsense Catholic priest asked him to examine a woman for a possible exorcism. Meeting her, Gallagher was astonished. The woman’s behavior defied logic. This remarkable case was the first of many that Gallagher would encounter. Sought after today by leaders of all faiths—ministers, priests, rabbis and imams, Gallagher has spent a quarter-century studying demonic activity and exorcisms throughout history and has witnessed more cases than any other psychiatrist in the world today.

One of the best books I've read in some time, with one of the best narrators I've ever heard. As a side note, I learned more about Buddhism in this one book than I've known ever in the past. But the story is not one to miss. And this reader--I don't know how he was picked to read this, but I really can't imagine anyone else having done such an amazing job. Truly fantastic. Thanks for writing, and narrating this inspired book.

Patrick has always been a thoughtful, reliable Catholic and one of my go-tos for sound Catholic sensibilities. Good job on these narration and the words here, Patrick.
