Meh, not the worst acting
Revisado: 01-16-23
Poirot was at times very difficult to understand , both in verbiage and volume. Some of the other actors and actresses were fair to good, but some were downright horrible. Production was overall very amateurish. Overall, because of the storyline, It's worth a listen.

Historia
The Consolation of Philosophy is one of the key works in the rich tradition of Western philosophy, partly because of the circumstances in which it was written. Anicius Manlius Severinus Boethius (c480-c524) was of aristocratic Roman birth and became consul and then master of offices at Ravenna, one of the highest posts under the Ostrogothic Roman ruler Theodoric. But Boethius was unjustly charged with treason in 524, and this led to house arrest, then torture and execution.

Historia
In the pantheon of ancient men of letters, none hold a more venerated position than the Roman historian, Tacitus, venerated alike for the accuracy of his chronicles as well as for the superiority of his style. He was a writer of unexcelled genius and consummate skill. But his work fell into oblivion not long after his death, and has come down to us based on the text of a single tattered manuscript from the Middle Ages.

Historia
Composed toward the end of the first millennium, Beowulf is the elegiac narrative of the adventures of Beowulf, a Scandinavian hero who saves the Danes from the seemingly invincible monster Grendel and, later, from Grendel's mother. He then returns to his own country and dies in old age in a vivid fight against a dragon. The poem is about encountering the monstrous, defeating it, and then having to live on in the exhausted aftermath.

Contemporary translation, yet with a touch of traditional force and feel. Artistic, and so stylised to the sense and purpose of the artist. Still, all due respect and cohesion to the original.

Gondolin, beautiful but undiscoverable, is central to the enmity of two of the greatest powers in the world. Morgoth of the uttermost evil seeks in vain to discover the marvellously hidden city of his Elven enemies, while the gods in Valinor refuse to support Ulmo Lord of Waters' designs to protect it. Into this world comes Tuor, cousin of Túrin, and guided unseen by Ulmo he sets out on the fearful journey to Gondolin to warn them of their coming doom.

Shabby and lumbering, with a face like a Norfolk dumpling, Father Brown makes for an improbable super-sleuth. But his innocence is the secret of his success: refusing the scientific method of detection, he adopts instead an approach of simple sympathy, interpreting each crime as a work of art, and each criminal as a man no worse than himself… Here you will find the complete Father Brown stories in the chronological order of their original publication. The Innocence of Father Brown Starts at Chapter 1, The Wisdom of Father Brown Starts at Chapter 13.

Good but not Great
Revisado: 10-23-19
While GKC is deserving of many accolades, writing not the least, writing murder mysteries are not that which elevates him above the common and on occasion, juvenile and even vulgar. AC Doyle sets the standard, peaks the interest, holds the attention, and leaves the reader desiring more.

Historia
Written by G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy addresses foremost one main problem: How can we contrive to be at once astonished at the world and yet at home in it? Chesterton writes, "I wish to set forth my faith as particularly answering this double spiritual need, the need for that mixture of the familiar and the unfamiliar which Christendom has rightly named romance."

One Way. One Truth. One Life.
Revisado: 10-05-19
A man of the world lives a life grounded to it, breath to breath, face in its dust.
A man in the world lifts his life heavenward, erect, untethered to the created, but to his Creator.
The first is necessarily upside down, disoriented, order to a decaying and dying material existence. The later, the natural man, hunts for that which he can not see, but believes, he knows but not how, he desires but knows not why.
In the end, both receive their reward. One with regret, the other, naturally, as returning home.

From Fr. Gabriele Amorth, the renowned exorcist in Rome, comes this powerful, eye-opening book on the deadly antics of Satan and his fallen angels, as well as spiritual remedies for each. If you overlook the references to PF, The Destroyer, the festering demonic swamp he was spawned from, Vatican II, and willing dupes who believe themselves channels of Grace but are tools of satan, known as the charismatics, then yeah, you might gleam some good from this book. My guess is the heterodox editor has had a liberal heavy hand in its making

Historia
The fables of Aesop have become one of the most enduring traditions of European culture, ever since they were first written down nearly two millennia ago. Aesop was reputedly a tongue-tied slave who miraculously received the power of speech; from his legendary storytelling came the collections of prose and verse fables scattered throughout Greek and Roman literature.

Many enjoyable fables to nod and reflect upon in silent agareement, many through one's personal life experience.
One disagreeable remark though, quite a few fables are repeatedly retold, and at one point, the reader actually takes a long moment to hack and clear his throat.
