I absolutely loved the setting of Naughty in Nice, and though it was a perfect follow up to the dark castles, dungeons, and Dracula from book 5, Royal Blood (which I also LOVED). I've never really known much about the French Rivera, so all through this story I was looking up the cities, hotels, and reference points mentioned. I cant believe how spot on Rhyse Bowen was in capturing all the details. She described the scenes so well that the pictures I found online looked exactly like what I had been picturing.

Aside from being obsessed with this era, I'm equally obsessed with this series, and thought I couldn't wait to start the next book. About an hour in to book 6, however, I realized I was still wonderfully hung over from my adventure in Nice, and decided to hold off so I could enjoy all the lingering effects of French men, high fashion, casino parties, and (sigh) Darcy O'Mara.

Another extremely outstanding performance by Katherine Kellgren as well. She is hands down, one of THE BEST narrators ever, and we're so very lucky to have her as the voice of Her Royal Spyness series!

This has been my favorite story out of the series so far! A castle in Transylvania, vampires, hidden passageways,Darcy O'Mara (sigh), and murder! Another outstanding performance from Katherine Kellgren as well! There were so many characters for her to perform, and she did an outstanding job at it! Shes one of the top narrators out there, if not THE top in my opinion. If you're new to the series, I'd recommend starting from the begining, as you dont want to miss out on any of the action!

Just as fantastically written as all the rest, I laughed so many times, and per usual, was hanging on every word. Gail Carriger's ability to turn words in to detailed pictures you can watch play out in your mind is unlike any other author I have ever known. Though I am SO sad to see this series end, I couldn't have asked for a more perfectly fitting one. She promised to answer lingering questions and not leave us hanging, and she absolutely kept that promise.

If you are new to Gail Carriger's Victorian steampunk world, I would actually begin with this series - her Finishing School series - and then go on to her Parasol Protectorate series, and then to her most recent - Custard Protocol series. They are independent of each other, so really you can go in any order, but since the option is now available, it would be fun for a new reader to start at the beginning.

As for the narrator - good Lord!! I seriously CANNOT say enough about the woman! Moira Quirk is insane - that's all there is to it. She reads every word with SO much spunk, gives personality to every character, and the way she never misses a beat - it all just adds another level of life to an already lively series. Moira and Gail are the perfect match, and I am SO excited she is performing the Custard Protocol series as well.

Do not hesitate to listen to anything performed by Moira Quirk, or written by Gail Carriger. Everyone I have recommended these two women to have become just as obsessed as the rest of us.

This is literally the exact review I left on the authors fb page:

"I have literally just listened to your book all day, straight through, in one sitting, only pausing for bathroom breaks, meal preparations, and one quick Facebook login. (note I listen to most all books vs reading them, and have never completed a book in a day until now). Out of all the witty, impressive, or well thought out things I could say in my review, I have decided to go with two words to best describe my feelings: BRA-FRICKING-VO and DAYUM!!! (if you're not familiar with that phrase, it means DAMN on steroids.) The level of this books badassness is at the top of the chart. You have an incredibly wicked writing style which is SO vivid, I felt like I was there watching. And dont even get me started on the genius of how you played the story out and my 9 1/2 hours of white knuckles! Get ready for the ride, ma'am, because I think this book is going to launch you in to your flippen dreams! In conclusion, I am sending you a "Top Gun" high five, which is the highest level of high fives one can be given. (please refer to google is unfamiliar) Thus ends my book review (drops microphone to floor, Alex Turner style, and walks away).
I would also like to add that the narrator Imogen Church is an effing boss and one of THE BEST performers I have ever heard.

Overall I think this was a nice addition to this series. I have to say I didn't really love the romance for the first 2/3's because it felt forced and a bit rushed. Once I was at the last 3rd however, things felt more natural. Though it was lacking in action and didn't have as steady of a pace as the first 2 books, it was still really nice to hear Frannie's side of things. Also, Lorraine Heath laced bits and pieces of what was going on with Luke and Jack throughout the story which made it feel more like a continuation of book 1 & 2 and not just a separate story all together.

Susan Ericksen's performance was good, though as I have said through this entire series, she needs to have a bit more variation in her characters, Overall, the spunk and attitude she gives to each person is great, and she was consistent with everyone's voices throughout the series, which can sometimes vary with other performers.

If you decide to listen and kind of find yourself bored or not as interested as you were in books 1 & 2 - stick with it. The ending really makes it all worth. Its a sweet story and everything Frannie does is so loving. You also get a nice glimpse into everyone's future, which always feels good.

Mixed Feelings - But Still Worth The Listen!

Since I'm now in love with the world Lorraine Heath has built for the Scoundrels of St James, I will say I'm pleased with this listen. As far as the female lead, I have to say I wasn't much for her. I didn't really feel the spark between her and Jack like I did with Catherine and Luke in the first book, and I feel like Jack deserved a better woman. As far as Jacks story, WOW!! He may end up being my favorite scoundrel out of them all, and that's a big step for me since I was pretty upset with him for decisions he made regarding Luke in the last book.

Narration was good, but as I felt with the first book, there needs to me more variation between characters voices. Jacks kind of sounds like Luke, Luke kind of sounds like Graves, Catherine and Olivia are similar... Aside from that, no one can ever accuse Susan Ericksen of not bringing spunk and personality to each character. Antony Ferguson is still a weird choice, but as in the last book he only speaks for a few minutes here and there.

Stick with this one, even if you're not loving it as much as the first. Both Jacks story and how you see him by the end is really wonderful.

Though I've only read one romance novel in my life and found it fun but cheesy, this book had my attention from the second I finished reading its description. I couldn't resist the story line of a gang of scoundrels, murder, love, and dark secrets from the past. From the minute it began I was instantly hooked and finished it w/in 2 days. The story was SOOO good and I was in suspense the ENTIRE time. There aren't many books that keep me hanging on every word, but this certainly was one. Without being boring, it was incredibly descriptive and enabled me to to see every word like I was watching a movie.

Until this book I have never heard of Lorraine Heath, but now I seriously cant wait to listen to all the other books in this series. Its hard to imagine the idea of loving any of them as much as I did this one, but hearing the stories of all the other scoundrels will be exciting in itself.

As far as narration, I have to say Susan Ericksen was good. She had a lot of passion and spunk, and she definitely gave personality to each character. It would have been nice to hear a bit of a change in her voice from character to character, but her attitude made up for it. Antony Ferguson's parts were rough. His accent was weird and his performance was flat, but he only spoke a few minutes here and there so it wasn't a big deal.

Even if you're not much for romance novels/cheesy sex scenes this book is absolutely worth the listen for mystery, suspense, and intrigue alone. The romance was woven in really well, which is why I didn't feel like I was listening to a dirty romance novel. Think Oliver Twist/Lies of Lock Lamora meets your favorite romantic dromedy.

I have honestly NEVER been so enthralled with a book like I was with Clockwork. Literally from the very first sentence I was hooked, wide eyed, on pins and needles, and bare breathing so I could hear ever word. As another reviewer stated - Brothers Grimm would be proud. In fact, I feel this story should be added to the famous fairy tales. It was SO good I that I will for sure be listening to it again as well as telling everyone about it.

Regarding the performance, out of all the books I have listened to on Audible, I am going to say Anton Lesser is easily at the top of the list of best performers ever. Again, as another reviewer stated, it was like he had written the book himself and was telling it to me. I felt like I was at the inn and he was the storyteller.

I purchased this book when it was listed as the Daily Deal, but I would have paid triple the original price. Don't be dissuaded by the fact its a shorter story. Personally, I think that is part of what kept me hang on every word. It's a little powerhouse packing serious heat, so do not hesitate to get this one if you're a fan of Grimm Brothers, steampunk, or just looking for something incredibly unique from what's out there right now. This will go down as one of my favorite stories ever.

I was really excited to read this given the reviews on goodreads, but I have to say I struggled through the middle terribly. I mean, it's Agatha Christie, so it could never be a bad book, but it just wasn't the best I've read of hers. Many of her books have my mind turning the entire time and that didn't happen for me with this one. I don't think there were enough twists and turns or intrigue laced throughout to keep me in suspense like usual. It finished in true Christie fashion, except I was still left wondering the details of a character mentioned throughout the entire book.

Narration was beyond incredible!! Though I hate using that word, Hugh Fraser deserves the sacrifice. This is the first book I've listened to performed by him, and I have to say I'm now super excited to listen to Christie's Hercule Poirot series.

So to sum it up: not the best, but I'm certainly not mad I used a credit. It as worth it for the narration alone. I'd just say to perhaps not start with this book if you're new to Agatha Christie. Everyone is different though, and perhaps I'm way off considering the high reviews on goodreads.

Finishing School - Book the Third: not the wildest plot of the bunch, but certainly just as entertaining and well performed!! I'll actually take it a step further and say this was Moira Quirks best performance yet. Her spunk and exaggeration, along with her ability to perform countless voices, literally transforms her in to each character making you completely forget that only one person is actually reading. Sad to know there is only one book left, but for me, this is a series I will be listening to again.
