Good story. Horrible language.
Revisado: 12-25-24
I love Lisa Regan’s stories but the language in this one was unnecessary. If I hadn’t paid for it, I’d have stopped listening. The narrator unquestionably did a better job than I’d have done by the fact that she whispered the entire book was annoying.

Historia
Ten years ago, PI Jessie Cole and reporter Ben Morrison each suffered a tragedy that changed their lives - and now these two strangers are about to share a nightmare. For Jessie, who makes her living finding missing persons, no case has consumed her more than the disappearance of her younger sister, Sophie. But left alone to raise Sophie's daughter, she realizes that solving the case has become an unhealthy obsession.

Good read
Revisado: 01-26-23
It took me a while to get used to the unusual cadence of the narrator but the quality of the story overtook that.

Historia
For decades, the women in Meggie O’Rourke’s family have run Lace, Satin, and Baubles, a lingerie business that specializes in creations as exquisitely pretty as they are practical. The dynamic in Meggie’s family, however, is perpetually dysfunctional. In fact, if Meggie weren’t being summoned back to Portland, Oregon, by her grandmother, she’d be inclined to stay away all together. Since her husband’s death a year ago, Meggie’s emotions have been in constant flux, and so has her career as a documentary filmmaker. Finding ways to keep the family business afloat - and dealing with her squabbling sister and cousin - will at least give her a temporary focus.

Very silly
Revisado: 06-11-21
Perhaps it was the narrator’s interpretation, I only finished this book because I’d paid for it. It was downright silly.

Historia
Everything changes in a single moment for Dawn Edelstein. She’s on a plane when the flight attendant makes an announcement: Prepare for a crash landing. She braces herself as thoughts flash through her mind. The shocking thing is, the thoughts are not of her husband but of a man she last saw 15 years ago: Wyatt Armstrong. Dawn, miraculously, survives the crash, but so do all the doubts that have suddenly been raised.

Not what I expected of Picoult
Revisado: 10-26-20
I jump on any new Jodi Picoult novel and always hate to see it end. Not so with this one. I was not at all interested in the Egyptology aspects of the story, but I also found the story of the main character to be highly improbable and confusing. I still don’t understand when the plane crash happened.

Historia
Jill Farrow is a typical suburban mom who has finally gotten her and her daughter's lives back on track after a divorce. She is about to remarry, her job as a pediatrician fulfills her - though it is stressful - and her daughter, Megan, is a happily overscheduled thirteen-year-old juggling homework and the swim team. But Jill’s life is turned upside down when her ex-stepdaughter, Abby, shows up on her doorstep late one night and delivers shocking news: Jill’s ex-husband is dead. Abby insists that he was murdered and pleads with Jill to help find his killer.

Meh...
Revisado: 10-14-19
The story started off well but by the end, it’s like the author just wanted to wrap it up. Perhaps the performance adds to this feeling - it was incredibly sappy and overly-dramatic when the action started. Not my favorite Scottoline book.

Pretty awful
Revisado: 03-01-17
The author's attempt at "sexual tension" is a mix of laughable and aggravating as heck. This must have been written by a teenager with far too much time on her hands.

Historia
An intricate tale of love, haunting memories, and renewal, Second Glance begins in current-day Vermont, where an old man puts a piece of land up for sale and unintentionally raises protest from the local Abenaki Indian tribe, who insist it's a burial ground. When odd, supernatural events plague the town of Comtosook, a ghost hunter is hired by the developer to help convince the residents that there's nothing spiritual about the property.
