After finishing this author's book on Covert Narcissism, I turned to this one to take the first steps toward healing. Debbie's voice and words are soothing and nurturing. Though I don't necessarily subscribe to all of the practices, I have been apply my own versions of self reflection and have made great strides in healing from years of emotional, psychological, mental and sexual abuse at the hands of a CN. Particularly helpful to me has been the understanding that I need to forgive myself for not accepting and loving myself. Debbie teaches a very simple practice for this - the Hawaiian ho’oponopono prayer:
“I’m sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you, I love you.” Thank you Debbie!

I had no knowledge of narcissism. The initial information I found didn't seem to fit - until I was encouraged to look into Covert Narcissism. I had to dig in and study to learn and understand what happened to me. I have come to know that I had been with a CN and endured fourteen years of abuse before the discard bomb was dropped. Three days after we said goodbye to our 17yr fur baby, he said, "We have nothing left. That (meaning the vet coming to help us say goodbye) was pivotal, that was a trigger. I want you out of the house in 30 days." He didn't need me to take care of our baby anymore and threw me away with the garbage. He had another woman in the house within a week of me moving - had likely been grooming her for months, preparing for my discard. I am 6 months past the discard and 4 months NC and feel extremely blessed to be out of that evil and toxic environment. I could continue to study CN forever, but I feel I have what I need to turn my focus to healing, put it all behind me, and learn to enjoy the freedom and peace I now have. This book will help you study and learn about NC abuse. When you are ready to move on to healing, I recommend another of this author's books, "The Safest Place Possible".

Solid information that gets straight to the point without strings of babble. Covert Narcissism is so different from overt and this book zeros in on that.

New age is not for me. This appears to be the author's attempt to explain the science of her version of the law of attraction. The new age perspective, for me, canceled any science. I couldn't get past the constant, "this is this which combines with this which leads to this which opens the door to this which will help you gain this so you can find this while you are standing on your head". It doesn't really say "while standing on your head", just feels like it. I found myself rewinding to try to follow the thought strings that went on and on and on. The narrator's voice sounded computer generated at times and had little to no tone changes or inflection. I was looking for practical insight and suggestions. Perhaps I would have found them in later chapters. I didn't have the patience to find out.
