Does it get any better than Al Pacino reading his memoirs?!

The way Al Pacino retells his life is engaging, honest, and loving. He plays this role like he does with all his roles, with a deep understanding and respect for the characters. When he talks about his family, it's heartwarming and bittersweet at the same time. I enjoy this book immensely. The only thing, and I hate to mention it but his voice tends to get gravely and horse. I wanted to offer him a lozenge. But that was only a tiny bit of the reading. The rest was amazing!

I hated how uncomfortable this story made me feel. I guess that was part of the point to grab your attention. It also saddened me to think that someone lived through this. I don't understand how an adult could do that to a child and another adult just allow this to happen. It's amazing how much strength and determination Precious has and how she fought for a better life. Not sure if I can watch the movie or read it again but it was a good listen.

I didn't think it was a coming of age story but more like a series of unfortunate events for this poor girl. The story was predictable and could've been a short story rather than a novel. At times I felt like I was watching a soap opera with the continual drama that the main character endured. I was born in 1970 NY but was too young to fully understand what happened at Willowbrook. It was interesting that the Geraldo Rivera documentary was mentioned and the urban legend of Cropsey was explained but not like a true crime story. All in all it was entertaining.

A lot of this book is speculative and conjecture. It was dripping with sarcasm and venom, with scathing references to certain people or events. The author's nickname for Chris Watts (Pennywise) was childish as well as redundant. I didn't appreciate the author's work in this particular. I have to admit that I haven't read any of their other works. Now I'm not sure I want to.

Listening to Leah Remini read her book, I was immediately brought back to my childhood. Trying to navigate through a world where you had to advocate for yourself and stand up for what you believe is right. It was heartbreaking to listen how much she hurt when the church that she was raised up in, supported and defended, turned their back on her when she began to have questions. Instead of reassuring her and restoring her faith, the children did the exact opposite, making her feel like she was the bad guy. I'm glad that she was able to get herself through it and start to help others. It was an emotional but amazing journey to listen to.

The book was written with a loving but broken heart. You actually felt Mike's pain upon coming to the realization that everything he believed in and built his life on was in ruins. It was an amazing listen.

Let me first say that Matye Garcia seems like a beautiful woman whose soul is pure love. I enjoyed listening to her story very much. It was beautiful, until it wasn't. I can't help feeling like he took a young, innocent and naive girl, groomed and molded her into what he wanted her to be and when things got difficult, he turned away and left her alone, as if he was blaming her for reminding him of the pain that he had been running away from his whole life. I actually cried during a few portions of the story. I felt Matye's pain and disappointment. I could go into bashing him for his treatment of her but that's my pain coming to the surface, not hers. When her time "in the sun" was over, she bowed out gracefully and took the higher path. I'm glad I listened to the audio book and am so impressed by Matye's maturity and ability to love through it all. I am disappointed by his treatment of women and his complete dismissal of them.

I can easily empathize with the emotion struggles of Britney trying to find out who she really is. There were certain parts of the book that seemed rushed through, like they needed to be said to get to the next point but were too painful to explain. Unfortunately, this story is all too familiar of how the people living off the talents of others never want the gravy train to end so end up pushing too hard or controlling them and the celebrity gets lost, becoming a robot programmed to perform, never actually feeling but going through the motions. There were certain parts of the book that were poorly written, almost juvenile but then again Britney wasn't allowed to grow and mature. She was a performing monkey who was expected to do what they were trained to do and never ever misbehave. The entertainment industry has to constantly feed the grinder in order to get the monkey to dance and so everyone else can benefit. They turn a love of performing, creating and talent into pure hell. Michelle Williams did a fine job reading but I think Britney could have brought it to life. Perhaps it was too painful to relive. I pray for Britney that she finds strength, healing and peace in her heart.

I have always sided with the prosecution from the beginning. I find Ms. Clark to be a tough, strong and courageous woman, someone I admire and wish other young women would look up to. Through personal trials, difficult odds and shockingly disappointing results, she stood her ground, head her head up and remained true to herself.

I've always liked Dominick Dunne. I watched his show Power, Privilege and Justice over and over. Gus Bailey is Dunne's alter ego and an amiable character . Although the narration was a bit off at times, this was a fantastic listen with a little twist at the end.
