Historia
During a houseboat vacation on the remote Lake of the Woods, a violent gale sweeps through unexpectedly, stranding Cork and his daughter, Jenny, on a devastated island where the wind has ushered in a force far darker and more deadly than any storm. Amid the wreckage, Cork and Jenny discover the body of a teenage girl. She wasn't killed by the storm, however; she'd been bound and tortured before she died. Nearby, underneath a tangle of branches, they also find a baby boy, hungry and dehydrated, but still very much alive.

Historia
It’s the opening night of The Manor, the newest and hottest luxury resort, and no expense, small or large, has been spared. The infinity pool sparkles; the “Manor Mule” cocktail (grapefruit, ginger, vodka, and a dash of CBD oil) is being poured with a heavy hand. Everyone is wearing linen.

Surprising ending
Revisado: 01-04-25
It’s so nice to read a book with some thought put into the story! I enjoyed this and didn’t see the ending coming. The loose ends wrapped up nicely. I guessed something else entirely. Worth a listen and I felt it was worth a credit too
The narrator was great.

Historia
When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

Disappointing after all the stellar reviews
Revisado: 12-21-24
I expected more from this listen. There was really nothing new here. The conversations had a few good lines but I felt like I was listening to a rehashing of a story told so many times in other books and movies. Just ok. That being said, it would probably make a great movie. The narration was fantastic. I would love to listen to a different book by this narrator ! But I feel that this story is highly overrated and overhyped. I wish I hadn’t wasted a credit on it. Maybe it would be worth listening for free.

Historia
Criminologist Martin Knight lives a gilded life and is a thorn in the side of the police. But then his wife, Liz, goes missing. There is no good explanation and no sign of Martin.... To make things worse, Liz is the ex-girlfriend of DCI Craig Gillard who is drawn into the investigation. Is it just a missing person or something worse? And what relevance do the events around the shocking Girl F case, so taken up by Knight, have to do with the present? The truth is darker than you could ever have imagined.

Interesting plot and good narration
Revisado: 10-06-24
The plot kept me guessing for the first half and then it was interesting seeing how it would unfold. I liked the way the narrator altered his voice just enough for the characters.

Great narrator and perfect short story
Revisado: 09-29-24
I really enjoyed this short listen. I saw that some reviews mentioned a rushed ending or that the characters weren’t developed. But this was a short story, and that’s what I expected. This is the second short one I’ve listened to by this author. I’ve listened to her longer novels. She is a fantastic writer, very descriptive, and the narrator chosen for this was perfect. I like these short listens for the times when I’ve run out of credits , waiting for my next months book.

Historia
Ever since I met my handsome husband Dr Gabe Bonneville, I started playing the role of the perfect housewife. He works hard as a surgeon, so I look after our home, and throw elaborate dinner parties with champagne cocktails for his best friends Hugh and Anita. He’s my safe place and my chance to have the family I’ve always wanted. I’ve managed to hide the mornings when I wake up and see a face in the shadows. I haven’t told Gabe the truth about the woman who raised me, or told him about the therapy I’ve been getting so my secrets stay hidden in the dark.

Historia
Wyoming's new governor isn't sure what to make of Joe Pickett, but he has a job for him that is extremely delicate. A prominent female British executive never came home from the high-end guest ranch she was visiting, and the British Embassy is pressing hard. Pickett knows that happens sometimes - these ranches are stocked with handsome young cowboys, and "ranch romances" aren't uncommon. But no sign of her months after she vanished? That suggests something else.

Historia
When Earl Alden is found dead, dangling from a wind turbine, it's his wife, Missy, who is arrested. Unfortunately for Joe Pickett, Missy is his mother-in- law, a woman he dislikes heartily, and now he doesn't know what to do-especially when the early signs point to her being guilty as sin. But then things happen to make Joe wonder: Is Earl's death what it appears to be? Is Missy being set up? He has the county DA and sheriff on one side, his wife on the other, his estranged friend Nate on a lethal mission of his own, and some powerful interests breathing down his neck.

I love this authors writing. I like this narrator, he gets the different character voices just right. He doesn’t change entirely but enough so you get the difference. On to the next book! I’ve read many of these in paper form but it’s great haven’t the whole series here to fill in the gaps.
