Historia
“Come home.” Vera’s mother called and Vera obeyed. In spite of their long estrangement, in spite of the memories — she's come back to the home of a serial killer. Back to face the love she had for her father and the bodies he buried there, beneath the house he'd built for his family.

Fun listen
Revisado: 09-21-24
The book was sold to me as a book that read like an A24 movie. It was a fun listen if you love disturbing stories with a horror twist.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

I felt like I know Demon
Revisado: 09-09-24
I grew up just north of Lee County, VA. I felt like I knew Demon, he’s my classmate or maybe my cousin. So many people get swallowed up by the mountains, just like so many of the folks in this book. Even if you don’t directly struggle with addiction, if you grew up there or any other small, under represented area’s in American, you know what it’s like. When you finally are able to get out of Appalachia, a part of you is still there. This book is a wonderful example of life there. For any outsiders, this about sums up many of our experiences. At times it felt too real, but this is a beautiful story and I would recommend to anyone.
My only critique, the accent of the narrator. There are too many differences in dialect, in the American south. You may not hear it, but we can.

Historia
When Louise finds out her parents have died, she dreads going home. She doesn’t want to leave her daughter with her ex and fly to Charleston. She doesn’t want to deal with her family home, stuffed to the rafters with the remnants of her father’s academic career and her mother’s lifelong obsession with puppets and dolls. She doesn’t want to learn how to live without the two people who knew and loved her best in the world. Most of all, she doesn’t want to deal with her brother, Mark, who never left their hometown, gets fired from one job after another, and resents her success.

I didn’t dislike it at all! Very fun, quick listen. If you are into any of this authors other books, you will enjoy this one as well.
