I read this book just before I got married in 1996. It was a few years old then. I listened to it this time on a drive and it was good to hear the truths that our society has clearly rejected. It is a book about the uniqueness of being a man. Not identifying as a male, but designed by God as a man from birth. Stu does a good job of giving us God's original design originating within the garden, and he does a good job of addressing how the fall impacted all of creation and how Christ has redeemed us and reconciled us to our original calling.

I was blessed to read Paul's testimony and the changes that he has made in his life because he has a personal relationship with God. His story is very relatable on many levels. He is honest, transparent, vulnerable, and encouraging. His story is one of hope and encouragement. He honors his dad very well in this book, and if you have had issues with your own father, this is a good book to read. He is proof that you can rise above the crap and be a man of God, regardless of how you start out in life. He is also proof that God uses our past to make us better in the future.

The book is great. The person who is reading this is a bit like a robot. Not very fluid or smooth. But, if you can get past the voice, what is being said is very good and worthwhile.

What did you love best about What Did You Expect??

Paul Tripp explains in common sense terms the application of theology in marriage. Two sinners get married, one should not expect marital bliss. Within the pages are important messages to men and women about how we work out our salvation in the context of marriage.

What was one of the most memorable moments of What Did You Expect??

A proper theology is more important in a marriage than sexual technique or how to please your spouse sexually. Too many people look for sexual books to bring healing to their marriage when what they really need is a better theology.

What did you love best about Fearless?

The author deals with common fears that everyone either has dealt with, is dealing with, or will deal with (from not enough money in the bank to death). Because perfect love casts out fear, the author does a great job of drawing people to God's perfect love which removes fear.

Any additional comments?

Max has a desire to know the depths of God's love. When we love God with all of our heart, there is no room for fear.

Where does The Life You've Always Wanted rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was the first audible book I listened to, and I had nothing to compare it with. It was easy to listen to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Life You've Always Wanted?

I love how the author relates his point with a story that the listener can identify with.

What about Jay Charles’s performance did you like?

He did a great job of reading.

If you could sum up The Me I Want to Be in three words, what would they be?

Refreshing, Insightful, Liberating

What did you like best about this story?

John does a great job of communicating Biblical truths that are not dry, irrelevant, or holier than thou. The author is speaking to me, not down to me.

What about John Ortberg’s performance did you like?

There is no doubt that John is speaking from firsthand experience in this book. In addition, his knowledge as a psychologist helps him relate to people better than theologians.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Do not compare yourself to other people.
