Several hours in, and I'm going to have to archive this title. It's uninteresting dune, with no motivation to its characters, and is a pretentious as its characters.

The performance is even worse, and makes the audio version worse than it needs to be.

Bad recommendation from audible!

I love Dungy as a man and coach, but this was hard to take seriously.

This is all speculation built on speculation. The author uses the idea that there were prehistoric civilizations that we know nothing about (very likely true, although their level of complexity is likely much lower than the bronze age civilizations of the Eastern Mediterranean or China) to build a fantasy of an advanced civilization. The fact that this book is highly rated on Amazon is a testament to a lack of critical thinking skills by its proponents. This book can be debunked for myriad reasons. But a simple one is that for the authors proposals to be true there has to both be far less ice on Antarctica 4-6k years ago AND far lower sea levels. Please put this book down and read a reputable book on prehistory, of which there are many.

Great book, well referenced throughout. The author blends historical and archeological fields perfectly and the book is insightful as a result.

The narrator needs to take a deep breath and slow down. The first 10 minutes or so of this sound like 1.5 speed before she settles in a little.I think imitating Phyllida Nash would be helpful for the narrator. To get through this book I had to turn the speed down to .9. That's a first!

This is a great book for anyone already intimately familiar with the crisis of the third century. When you zoom into history that tightly during an era with poor written sources, a narrative will inherently include archeological evidence, and other additional source material. The author does an impressive job of navigating the available evidence and explaining his reasoning and methodology to support or contrast the written record.

I can't express enough what a book like this means to those of us hungry for history's intimate details.

This book has some great information, and even some good chapters. The problem is that it has no sense of audience. The book is horribly over explanatory for a history buff. Nobody who I would expect to read this book needs to be told the story of Napoleon Bonaparte. The book frequently sidesteps into a general western history. If it was meant for a casual history fan, then it is even worse because it frequently expects you to know who Talleyrand is, or the details of the 30 years war without explanation. The book could be easily halved if the author and editor had selected a target audience and focused on them.

Another turn off was the frequent quotation of original texts. This is a great idea for the written book, to give you a sense of the languages and their similarities to Germanic or Latin languages. The narrator did his best, but those sections could have been eliminated for the audio version and nothing would be lost.

Duncan joins the ranks of America's great biographers with this wonderful book that breaths life into the adventures of liberty's greatest advocate. From start to end Duncan covers the life of Lafayette in glorious detail in his journey from the court of the Ancien Regime to the last living major general of the American revolution. This is the book every fan of history needs to read.

Dr Freeman brings the inner workings our least admirable congresses to light. Even as a well read fan of history, I had no idea the saturation of bullying and false bravado DC experienced in the lead up to the civil war. It's a difficult period to read about, but if you read just one book about how we got to the point of civil war this should be that book.

I also appreciate her reading the book herself. I find that to be the best experience in most cases with narrative history. She has a professorial tone tinged with a sense of humor about her subject. Very professional in all aspects.

this want my favorite groover Gardner performance because of some pronunciation issues, but his voice is perfect for audio books overall.

I really like Richard Miles presentation of Carthage. it's honest and deep. so many authors of books like this fall in love with their subject and cannot be critical of the failings of cultures or leaders. Miles sticks to the facts and presents Carthage in a relatable, human way. His presentation of the culture and how it for into the greater Greek and Latin world was very insightful, showing them in the truest way we can see in light of the limited sources. Impressive authorship!

First let me say Gardner nails the reading of this book. this was absolutely the best presentation of a book I have listened to as an audible veteran. Bravo sir.

The stand is an amazing novel that I first read in the mid nineties, and has held up over the years. I'm glad I had a second opportunity to ingest it.
