Historia
Sarah McNeilly is a rare find in the tabloid industry. She won’t ignite gossip. She finds the truth. And for once, that’s what her boss wants. With her job on the line, Sarah’s latest assignment is to identify the elusive “Maximillian Smith,” unearth his connection to the billionaire Stone family, and dig up some dirt. Yesterday Max was an ordinary workingman, concerned with little more than the price of gas. Now he suddenly has a family, jaw-dropping wealth, and an avid (if clumsy) reporter on his trail.

All the feels
Revisado: 12-12-24
Great character development! Loved the way they just opened up to expand the family and the importance of family. Good expose of foster care system. The ending felt a bit abrupt. Brought me to tears and laughter.

Fun with Mummies
Revisado: 12-08-24
Book 3 was quite complicated with a bit of deus ex machina, quite literally. It's fun with the good guys who are usually cast as the bad guys - demons, mummies, vampires and ghouls. The only challenge is the narrator doesn't have a different voice for each of the characters and it becomes challenging to tell who's doing/saying what. However, she does have good emotion and phrasing as well as subtle accents.

Historia
1815, London. Arabella Latham is a free spirit who longs to feel the spark of true love, but few men can match her passion for Shakespeare or her zest for life. Though her prospects seem slim, Arabella knows she can always count on the handsome but stoic Lord Henry Northcott, dubbed “The Brooding Baron” by the ton, to be willing to engage in intelligent conversation and even share a congenial dance with her at almost every ball. His quiet demeanor is the opposite of her vivacious personality, and she finds herself drawn to him, despite their differences.

Narration was incredible
Revisado: 11-25-24
I’m fairly sure it was a good story but Mary Jane Wells brought the characters to life. The brooding baron had “madness” in his family and was certain he should never marry. Yeah, right. Dealing with the asylums in the 19th century is always frightening. Thankfully we weren’t in it for too long.

Historia
Abigail Westcott's dreams for her future were lost when her father died and she discovered her parents were not legally married. But now, six years later, she enjoys the independence a life without expectation provides a wealthy single woman. Indeed, she's grown confident enough to scold the careless servant chopping wood outside without his shirt on in the proximity of ladies. But the man is not a servant. He is Gilbert Bennington, the lieutenant colonel and superior officer who has escorted her wounded brother, Harry, home from the wars with Napoleon.

Good enough
Revisado: 11-16-24
I loved the story but there were long sections of introspection that were so long I lost the plot. Glad I didn’t pay full price for this one.

Atmospheric but…
Revisado: 10-03-24
Lots of descriptive phrases beautifully written but I would have appreciated a story that made sense. Reads like the author was on drugs and just recorded various visions and tried to plop them into a story. Very unsatisfying.

So Heartwarming
Revisado: 09-16-24
I was given this audiobook as a gift because my friend loved the book so much and thought I would too. And I did. Because I read a lot of science fiction/fantasy, I really wasn't sure where this story was going but I loved it. I agree with many other reviewers that the amount of "he said, she said" was overwhelming and distracted from the story. Read it anyway or listen.

Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Very different premise
Revisado: 09-09-24
At least the story was a good idea. I'm not sure if the writing was stilted or if that was just Phillipa Soo's interpretation but it didn't flow. I liked that idea that they were competitive journalists who ended up working together but it took a lot for me to warm up to Nadine - a lot. I struggled to finish but I'm glad I stuck with it. Loved the ending.

Good story

This had a lot of suspense but it seemed strange to me that anyone had never heard of a Faberge egg. I suppose that ignorance was inserted as an excuse to explain what they are but I really couldn’t imagine anyone being oblivious to their existence.

Historia
Valentine Weis is a salvager in the future wastelands of Utah. Wrestling with body dysphoria, he dreams of earning enough money to afford citizenship in Salt Lake City—a utopia where the testosterone and surgery he needs to transition are free, the food is plentiful, and folks are much less likely to be shot full of arrows by salt pirates. But earning that kind of money is a pipe dream until he meets the exceptionally handsome Osric.

Odd
Revisado: 08-05-24
Okay, so a female who identifies as male/he and sexually prefers other male/he, falls in love with an AI who has mistakenly been placed in a male android body. I did enjoy the character of Valentine, he was so good hearted. Also enjoyed the concept of androids becoming sentient (sorry, should I put spoiler alert here?) Otherwise, I had to force myself to keep reading the first half of the story. I had a hard time determining the difference between the two narrators.
