Historia
When a violent storm hits Graveyard Falls, it unearths the unimaginable: skeletons of teenage girls, each dressed in white and holding a candle. It's clear to FBI agent Beth Fields that this is the work of a long-standing killer - but could it be the one she escaped years ago? She has no memory of the man who held her captive and murdered her friend. But even though someone was jailed for the crime, she's always feared that the real killer is still out there...waiting and watching.

Great Narration. Not Invested In the MC's
Revisado: 01-23-25
The best part of this book for me was the narration. I am not sure if I had read the ebook, that I would have finished it. There were parts that were intriguing and suspenseful. I have come to the conclusion that being gruesome is not enough to carry a story, at least not for me.
For the most part, some of the elements in this book were ridiculous. The obvious issue was that not one, but two members of law enforcement were personally and directly involved in the case. Yet Beth (the previous victim) got to run the task force, and Ian (the son of the alleged killer) got to partner with her. Every person followed their lead without questioning their judgment.
Their judgment should have been questioned because both Ian and Beth (JJ) were unable to control their emotions several times during the investigation, with them losing their objectivity on occasion.
Maybe it was me, but they spent a good amount of time trampling through crime scenes. Then calling in the crime scene techs and leaving before they could give them details about the crime scene or what they had touched.
I thought the twist at the end was kind of mean. Didn't Beth (JJ) have enough problems?
I won't even get into the romance. The relationship was boring, there was no chemistry, and I was not invested in either character.
I felt an obligation to complete the books that I had purchased. I was hoping they would get better.

Historia
Josie DuKane is on shaky ground. Having narrowly escaped the notorious Bride Killer, she penned a tell-all memoir that dug up a town's dark past. Now the book is being made into a movie, and Josie must visit the very place that will trigger an avalanche of unwanted memories - Graveyard Falls. On the heels of her arrival, she receives a gruesome photograph of a dead woman with talon marks carved into her face. And worse, Josie just might be the next victim.

Disappointing
Revisado: 01-22-25
The expertise and experience seemed to be sorely lacking regarding the investigation. It seemed to me that after Josie's last encounter with danger, she would not have been so anxious to put herself in a vulnerable situation.
Why did Josie suddenly become Dane's partner in the investigation when it should have been the sheriff of Graveyard Falls? He ended up taking a backseat and becoming more of a subordinate to Dane.
The killer was obvious, but, giving credit where credit is due, the killer's reasons for wrecking havoc was not.
Dane was one emotionally inept FBI agent. I was honestly shocked that he didn't seem calm, professional, or exhibit self-control. He seemed incapable of maintaining his emotional control.
I was completely indifferent to Dane and Josie's romance. I felt no connection to either of them. There was nothing in their behavior to convince me of the insta-love element, or even make it seem plausible.

Historia
A young woman lies dead at the bottom of a waterfall, dressed in a wedding gown with a rose stem jammed down her throat. And in the small town of Graveyard Falls, the horrifying vision stirs a long-ago nightmare back to life.... FBI Special Agent Cal Coulter gets called in to investigate the murder, which bears a terrifying resemblance to a series of killings committed thirty years ago: three teenage girls were found dead at the waterfall's base, all bearing rose stems in their throats.

Great Narration!
Revisado: 01-20-25
I enjoyed this mystery/thriller more than I expected. I listened to the audiobook. Being an Eric G. Dove fan, I think he enhances any book he narrates.
The descriptions regarding the snow, cold, ice, darkness, forest, etc. were excellent. I could easily imagine being in the different environments that were described.
I loved that this book actually made me think. The killer, who seemed to be obvious, wasn't quite so obvious. The secrets that people were holding that seemed straightforward were not straightforward. On top of that, one character who I decided was actually unalive turned out to be very much alive. These elements added an additional layer of intrigue to the story.
Tbh, I have to say I thought Anna and Mona made some pretty ridiculous moves. I could understand Anna doing it even more than Mona.
I am definitely moving on to the next book in the series.
I can also.honestly say that I was engaged in the mystery, suspense, and danger of this story until the very end.

It Was OK
Revisado: 01-20-25
If this was an age gap story, it went completely over my head. I listened to the audiobook. It was a struggle for me to get through the narration.
I liked Jamison and Liv well enough. I felt no emotional attachment to them. I thought the kids carried the book. I thought the Jorja and Walker relationship was interesting.
Overall, this book was kind of bland. Since I have all of the Jareau Family books on audio, I will continue at a later date. I am hoping the series improves with each book.

Too Many "Thoughts"
Revisado: 01-16-25
I listened to the audiobook and found the insertion of the characters "thoughts" to be unappealing. It took me a couple of moments to realize they were actual thoughts and not part of a conversation the character was having with another character.
The mystery was ok. I didn't connect with the characters. The bad guy was sadistic. What Rod did made no sense. I questioned Evan and Rowan's relationship since he couldn't seem to share the difficult situations that were occurring in his life.
There was a conclusion to the drama, but at no time did this couple have a discussion about the SAR girlfriend not being a fragile flower so they could discuss difficult situations. Or, when it was all said and done, what did Evan's lieutenant have to say to him after the way Evan was treated by him? What happened to Cynthia? What happened with Zack and Sophia ?
I think if the "thoughts" would have been more distinctive or done by a different narrator, this book would not have dragged on so long. I didn't get an epilogue. I got a "one week later" chapter that didn't give me answers to the questions I had.

Putting herself first is what Jordana Evans knows how to do best. She’s at the top of her game in her career and no longer haunted by memories of her past threatening to steal her joy. In her mind, being in love is a want, not a need, and she’s convinced that she’ll be just fine without it. 3 Epilogues
Revisado: 01-07-25
This was my first book by this author. I started by listening to the audiobook.
There were several things I liked. How Genesis was open about his past and with what Kymani tried to do. That Jordana was finally open about what Bryson did to her too. How supportive both Genesis and Jordana were of each other. Genesis' generosity and support with the people he loved and his employees. I appreciated the descriptive detail regarding the characters' physical appearance and their fitness.
I had to switch to the ebook around chapter 18. This book revolved around the main characters and the intimate details of their relationship to the point it appeared their relationship had little substance.
Their constant self-reflection and belief that neither desired a relationship with the other was frustrating and unproductive. It took them too far into the book before they had an open and honest discussion about their feelings and intentions.
The repetitive elements of the book, like Genesis describing the launch for Gabi, his physical attraction for Dana, and her physical attraction for Genesis, became tiresome. I felt that if it were not for some of the repetition in the book, it could have been much shorter.
By around chapter 8, I just wanted them to get on with whatever was supposed to happen in this book. The chapters introducing Jordana and Genesis were promising, but the story really picked up from chapters 19 to 29.
Focusing more on Genesis' efforts to support his sister, the duplicity of Kymani's character, Gabi's backstory, Jordana's relationship with her father, and the dynamics involving Bryson, or details about Genesis' father, would have made this book even more engaging and captivating for me. I would rate this 2.5 stars.
I forgot to express my appreciation for an epilogue. With this book, I got 3.

A Refreshing Love Story
Revisado: 01-06-25
This is my first book by this author. This love at first sight romance had no angst at all. I kept expecting it, but it didn't happen. I think this was the first book I had read with no angst, no drama, just full of love, family support, and friendship. It was refreshing.
Hiram and Ximena had unique names and an unbreakable connection. Tbh, I don't know if this was a love at first sight romance or more of a romance about fate bringing two people together. Although their connection seemed immediate, they did take the time to let the relationship grow.
I appreciated the fact that they did let their relationship develop, achieved their goals, and reached their HEA. The narration done by two of my favorite narrators was great and enhanced the story.

Ridiculous, But Entertaining
Revisado: 12-29-24
This book was bizarrely ridiculous, quirky, and humorous.
Ian Ludlow suddenly found himself at the center of an intricate espionage plot involving a security company, the CIA, and some of the highest ranking levels of government.
The thing that made this book so entertaining for me was that there was no way that Ian, Margo, and Ronnie should have come out of the situation unscathed. With a multitude of conspiracy theories woven throughout the book, it was often scarily close to some real-life issues.
The narration could have been more clear and engaging. It was sometimes difficult to follow who was speaking, which disrupted the flow of the story. The narration did not add much to the book.

This was okay. I thought it was a decent tease. I may read the next book to see the next phase of Nick and Kate's relationship. After listening to this book, there was only one way I could think of that Nick and Kate could be together. I will have to read the next book.
I could not get into the narration. If the same narrator is on future books, I will pass and read the actual book. Something about the tone and/or cadence was not satisfying to me. 2.5 stars.
I would recommend it because it was a short read and had a few interesting elements regarding the shell game.

I enjoyed the pairing of Sharpe and Walker with Eve and Duncan. The banter and humor throughout made it an enjoyable read. I hope to see more pairings of the arson and homicide detectives.
The male narrator made it slightly harder to distinguish between male characters, but it didn't significantly detract from the story.
