Historia
Cat Winthorpe has worked hard to get what she has: a gorgeous home; social standing; and William, her successful, handsome husband. Then a friendly new couple moves into the estate next door. While cautious, a good neighbor like Cat greets them with open arms and warm hospitality. Neena Ryder isn’t a fellow lady of leisure. A life coach with off-the-rack dresses, personal issues, and a husband who hasn’t delivered, she’s anxious to move up in the world. This beautiful new town is a step in the right direction. It’s also making Neena aware of what she doesn’t have.

Boring
Revisado: 12-22-24
Do not buy this book! I only got it for book club. The characters are the most narcissistic, pathetic people I have ever been forced to get to know. Kat is married to Matt and Nina wants him. That is the entire story. Kat and Nina are very much alike, social climbers that are only interested In self aggrandizement and affirmation. Nina’s husband William is the only character with any redeemable qualities but he is easily manipulated by both women. I kept waiting for some action that was not predictable but was sadly disappointed. Kat’s narrator has a subtle lisp which is more annoying because Kat’s personality is so off putting. I’m returning this book now!

Historia
Americans have lost faith in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, an institution they once regarded as the world’s greatest law-enforcement agency. Thomas Baker spent many years with the FBI and is deeply troubled by this loss of faith. Specific lapses have come to light and each is thoroughly discussed in this book: Why did they happen? What changed? The answer begins days after the 9/11 attacks when the FBI underwent a significant change in culture.

Enlightening
Revisado: 07-23-24
The author clearly defines the change in FBI culture post 9/11. It is a shame to witness the downfall of a venerable institution, but there is still hope. The author provides facts without bias towards any particular political party, which is refreshing in the current hyper-polarized political atmosphere. I highly recommend this book.

Revisado: 03-24-24
I enjoy spy novels and this book did not disappoint. I gave the story a 4 because it was not the best spy novel i have ever read. The characters are interesting but there were loose ends. I’m sure they will be tied up in the next meeting of the Martini club.

Historia
Amber Patterson is fed up. She's tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more - a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne - a socialite and philanthropist - and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale. Amber's envy could eat her alive...if she didn't have a plan.

Do not get this book
Revisado: 03-15-24
This book was selected by my book club. The story is boring and predictable. Poor girl covets rich girls husband for his money and status. I couldn’t stand her whining about her childhood, as if that is an excuse for lying and cheating her way into this unsuspecting family. I only listened to about a third of the book and it was torture.

Twisted tale of murder and deception
Revisado: 02-12-24
Devine is in the sh*t again. There are lots of suspects so pay attention. Sometimes it was difficult to keep track of all of them unless you have the opportunity to listen continuously. But once you get started it’s so good you cannot stop. Some of the characters were obviously distractions to mislead you into thinking they were the killer or killers. The pace in some places was a little slow so I gave the story 4 stars. I didn’t think it was quite as well written as the 6:20 Man. Having said that, I can’t wait for book #3.

Historia
Grace Holloway keeps to herself. Since narrowly escaping death at the hands of the man who kidnapped her, she’s thrown herself into the small inn she runs in Rock Harbor, Maine. It’s quiet, quaint and, in the off-season, completely isolated—the perfect place for Grace to keep her own secrets. But Grace isn’t the only one with something to hide, and Rock Harbor isn’t just a sleepy vacation town. Someone is taking young women—girls who look an awful lot like Grace did when she was kidnapped so many years ago.

Riveting!
Revisado: 12-03-23
This was the best of Ms. Glass’s books I have read to date. You will never guess who abducted the girls. The interesting background stories for each character, made it even more difficult to figure out who was the culprit. I could not stop listening to the story right up to the very end. I like it when there is a clear resolution to a crime. I am not sure I would have agreed with the punishment that was decided on by the group, but it certainly was appropriate for the crimes. You will definitely enjoy this book!

Historia
Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

One of the best Baldacci books
Revisado: 11-08-23
I have read many of this author’s books in print and I highly recommend you listen to this one. The narrators are fantastic and the story is riveting, a real “who done it”. I usually figure out who the villains are but this one was a surprise at the end. It was definitely worth the credit. The protagonist was a graduate of West Point and and Army Ranger both tab and scroll in the storied 75 Ranger battalion. Something happens to him overseas that causes him to leave the service. To gain his father’s approval he gets his MBA in finance and joins a large firm in NYC. There are many different stories weaved into this book and each one makes sense in the end. I wish the book had been longer because it was so well written and I wouldn’t say that about all of the author’s books.

Historia
“As Albert Einstein almost certainly never said, everyone is a genius—but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” So begins Katie Spalding’s spunky takedown of the Western canon, and how genius may not be as irrefutably great as we commonly understand. While most of us may never become Einstein, it may surprise you to learn that there’s probably a bunch of stuff you can do that Einstein couldn’t. And, as Spalding shows, the famous prodigies she explores here were quite odd by any definition.

If foul language bothers you do not listen to this book. I enjoyed reading about the eccentricities of these geniuses. It shows you, just because you are a genius in one area doesn’t me you’re smart about everything. These people are really surprisingly weird. Fun book, good narration and if you are ready for a change this book is for you.

Historia
Emma Carpenter lives in isolation with her golden retriever Laika, house-sitting an old beachfront home on the rainy Washington coast. Her only human contact is her enigmatic old neighbor, Deek, and (via text) the house’s owner, Jules. One day, she reads a poorly written—but gruesome—horror novel by the author H. G. Kane, and posts a one-star review that drags her into an online argument with none other than the author himself. Soon after, disturbing incidents start to occur at night.

I really enjoyed reading this book, so many twists and turns. Emma was a very compelling character. My only criticism is that it dragged a little bit in some places. The ending was really a surprise. I look forward to reading another one of the authors books.
