Historia
When Oberon, King of the Fairies, uses his magic upon four runaway lovers in a midsummer wood outside Athens, chaos ensues. Who really loves whom? Meanwhile, a band of well-meaning but bungling local actors have their rehearsal sabotaged by the mischievous Puck, who bewitches their leader, Bottom, and Titania, the Fairy Queen. The result is a lively and anarchic comedy that can only be resolved by an elaborate disentangling of spells.

Shakespeare Comes Alive!
Revisado: 06-21-21
Arkangel always delivers wonderful Shakespeare performances! I was hesitant starting this one because of the reviews criticizing some of the non-European accents used in the performance, but I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did! I strongly disagree with the negative reviews. I thought the diverse accents were great and gave the performance a unique twist. I also disagree that they sounded fake or were offensive in some way. I thought they sounded realistic and I enjoyed the diversity of the cast. And as always, I enjoyed the sound effects. They really help you visualize what's happening. Overall another great take on Shakespeare from Arkangel.

Historia
The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Decent But Missing Something
Revisado: 06-21-21
This one was just okay for me. Perhaps I would have liked this more if I had listened to it before seeing the TV miniseries, but this was the very rare case where I like the movie/TV series better than the book. The individual storylines felt very disjointed, with major characters disappearing for very large chunks of the book and other parts seeming to ramble along a bit. The TV series seemed to do better weaving the storylines together throughout each episode, making for a more satisfying narrative over all. And while I liked the narrator's performance as a whole, the voice for Adam was very odd. He's supposed to be a kid but the narrator uses a very deep voice that reminds me of an old man. It really threw me off. I absolutely love Gaiman's other works but this isn't one I'll revisit.

Cute Novella, Slim Plot
Revisado: 07-04-19
I got this as one of my free monthly Audible Originals and wasn't really sure what to expect, but I did enjoy it overall. It was unexpectedly funny and the characters and town were charming. But it is definitely a novella, which means it's a short story not a full blown novel. I have some mixed feelings about it because while I thought it was a cute/funny audiobook and the narrators did a great job, there really isn't much of a plot - which is unusual even for a novella. This is part of a series so most of the story is introducing you to the characters, the town, and the world that Molly Harper has created. By the time the story really gets moving the book is more than half over. Still though, if you think you're interested in the other books in the series this is a nice introduction to the author, the narrators, and the series. Also some people don't like the dual narrators but I enjoyed it since the male narrator read chapters that were written from the male MC's point of view, and the female narrator read the ones from the female MC's. I can see how some people wouldn't like this, but I enjoyed it. Overall, it's worth a listen if you enjoy cute, funny love stories.

Historia
When I found myself facing down the scariest black-magic felon in the city, practically daring him to abduct me, I had to wonder exactly how I ended up here. It all started when I accidentally landed a job as a bartender - but not at a bar. At a guild, populated by mages, sorcerers, alchemists, witches, and psychics. Good thing this lame-o human is adaptable, right? Then my favorite guild members - three sexy, powerful, and intermittently charming mages - asked for my help. Did they want access to my encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails? Oh no.

Fun, light-hearted Urban Fantasy Romp!
Revisado: 06-28-19
I've read Annette Marie's Guild Codex series in print form and loved it, so when I saw the audiobook versions I thought I might enjoy listening to them while I'm commuting to work or running errands. Book 2 did not disappoint and I couldn't stop listening even though I'd read the story before! I really enjoy Cris Dukehart's narration in both book 1 and 2. She really embodies what Tori's voice sounded like in my head and she has a good range in terms of emotion and the of voices for other characters. A few of her male voices sounded a bit the same to me but overall she has a good range and you can usually distinguish between the different characters. The story line isn't my favorite in the series though, it's a little more thin than some of the other books. Books 3 and 4 have more compelling stories but this is a fun stepping stone in the overarching narrative in Tori's story. I look forward to listening to the audiobooks for the rest of the series!

Fun Listen for Potter Fans!
Revisado: 06-28-19
This was such a fun, quick listen for fans of Harry Potter. Andrew Lincoln was a excellent narrator, with a range of voices and accents for the various characters, and had me smiling all the way through the story. I also enjoyed the sound effects. I wouldn't want them for every audiobook but it feels right for this Harry Potter companion story. Overall it's a good audiobook and provides some rich context and background for HP fans. If you aren't already familiar with the world of Harry Potter though, it may not be as enjoyable of a listen. Also, don't forget about the bonus section at the end! I almost stopped listening right before it.

When they met at an airport, it was love at first sight. But in time, everything collapsed. As an unnamed but unforgettable woman muses on her life—from meet cute to marriage and parenthood—her recollections inexorably build to a devastating truth. In this shattering performance, Carey Mulligan, star of the critically lauded drama An Education, captivates audiences with playwright Dennis Kelly’s harrowing ruminations on family, ambition, gender, and violence.

A Riveting Emotional Roller Coaster
Revisado: 09-13-18
All I can say is wow! That was not at all what I expected but the story was completely engrossing and sends the listener on an emotional roller coaster. Carey Mulligan was amazing in narrating/acting this roughly 90 minute monologue. I wasn't able to listen to it in one sitting but I wish I would have now. The slow transition in the story would have been even more riveting if heard all at once.
I wasn't really sure what this book was about when I got it but I chose it as one of my free monthly audible originals that I now get with my membership. It's great that this new membership benefit offers up such unique stories. It isn't something I would have chosen to listen to on my own but I'm so glad I took a chance.
It might be too emotional for some listeners, so I'd recommend reading up on the story a bit before diving in if you are particularly sensitive to violence. For me, not knowing where the story was going was one reason it was particularly engrossing but it was almost too much for me toward the end, once I realized what it was building up to. However, I'm so glad I stuck with it. The theme is an important one that deserves recognition.
