Historia
Being a Girl with Glasses isn't just a style choice; it's a way of life. If you've ever had your specs steam up when walking into a bar, squinted into the sun on the soccer field, or laid eyes on a new haircut only after your locks are strewn across the floor, you know what it's like to be a GWG. Marissa Walsh has worn glasses since third grade. Now - 10 pairs of glasses, one pair of prescription sunglasses, and endless pairs of contacts later - she has fully embraced her four-eyed fate.

Diction too fast to enjoy
Revisado: 12-25-17
I didn’t follow the story because the reader was so fast I couldn’t follow it. When I slowed the speed it was also too difficult to follow .

Wow!
Revisado: 05-18-16
The force of feelings is so well conveyed- despair, treachery, kindness, love . The interplay of failed families verses found comrades is so powerfully crafted , the fantasy so spun it's believable in the happening - horrid images easily seen in the readers / listeners mind

Japan, 1857. For centuries, Japan has been on its own; isolated by choice from the rest of the world. But the Western powers are now at its shores, demanding to be let in; the government is crumbling, and revolution is building. The age of the samurai is ending and in its place a new Japan will be born. And a young woman is readying herself for marriage in this, the most tumultuous period of her nation's history.

Hearn's facts get in the way
Revisado: 04-24-16
Lian Hearn is great story teller- but not of historical fact . The names of every person and place interrupt the flow of the story. It's breath of fresh air briefly exploring gender roles in imperial Japan was exciting, but not sustained . It may be factual but the relationship between the Backufu, the emperor , the protestors , the different government officials being favoured or not was not clear until the very last . I pigheadedly listened on to be sure . The diction of the woman was hard to listen to, and the male voice was overly dramatic . Very disappointing . This is nothing like the Otorti tales.

Revisado: 04-24-16
The method is clear. The criterion plain to decide . Step by step is how to get there . Uncluttered, clears the way for free flow .

Revisado: 02-25-15
Alice narrator was rather slow- she sounded depressed- but her message is so powerful. Allow the other narrators characters to enliven the story - so well written, the last few hours take me by surprise . Excellent !

Irritating diction- sybillance totally inappropria
Revisado: 10-06-14
What disappointed you about Free: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow?
The oration of the story was irritating and boring
What could Washington Irving have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Nothing particularly wrong with the story - although being totally third person keeps the listener at arms length
What didn’t you like about Tom Mison’s performance?
The amplification of almost every word . There was too much emphasis on spitting the words out using inappropriate force with every consonant .
What character would you cut from Free: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow?
None.
Any additional comments?
The only interesting part was at the very end - at first I thought he was being chased by his own moonlight shadow . . The pumpkin falling was the give away . I would have preferred Brom to be scared off and knikerbod (?) triumphant
