Historia
This fourth wall-breaking, three-book collection showcases Jackson's adventures through fantasy realms, comic book universes, and classic space opera settings. Each fast-paced novel allows Jackson to flex his powers, skills, and wits as he exploits the rules, points out the respective genre's flaws, and undermines godly authority to win the day. All the while laughing at the expense of our beloved tropes. Because that is what villains should do, shouldn’t they?

Did not disappoint!
Revisado: 02-02-24
I bought this specifically because of the sample. It was so good that I had to give this a shot. I know Jeffery Kafer from the Supervilliany saga. I knew he'd give another good performance. But the story is different from Supervilliany and it was refreshing. This guy is an actual villain. The rants fell flat a few times. But I enjoyed the story. Especially the ending of the third book. Gotta admit you got me. Didn't put it together. Will definitely continue the series!

The economy has taken a turn for the worse, and Hank is working as a part-time gravedigger (and more than part-time graverobber). Despite being an expert shoveler, it’s not his top career choice, and he’s anxious to take any "legitimate" criminal work that comes along. In that vein, he finds himself hired by a mysterious woman who wants him to recover an even more mysterious trunk that was stolen from her mansion.

Funny as usual, but terrible editing.
Revisado: 09-10-23
This is the 11th(?) HLH book. At this point, you understand what you're getting. The writing and performance make for a funny story story per usual. But like everyone said, the editing is terrible.
Multiple takes left in this. At first I thought there was a bug in my playback. When it kept happening, I double checked and it was not the playback. Whomever edited or reviewed the final product messed up bad. This seems like a rush job. Hopefully it gets fixed for future listeners.

Historia
Hank is fairly happy that his uncle was murdered. The man had been nothing but a source of endless sorrow and hardships since they first met. Nevertheless, Hank is forced to investigate the killing and comes to realize it is connected to a much larger collection of miseries than even his uncle could manage. This episode marks a huge shift for Hank as he ventures into unknown regions of the cosmos and is confronted with the harsh truths of his reality.

Funny story and performance as usual
Revisado: 10-24-21
As with the other books in the series, the writing and performance made this hilarious. No spoilers, but there's an event in the middle of the book that made me question the events of the last half. But all that actually sets up future books pretty well. I'm looking forward for future installments

Garm prequel
Revisado: 08-27-21
So yea, it's a Garm prequel. It starts off a bit slow, but it picks up a bit in the end. The story is interesting and the characters have decent development throughout the book. Naturally it doesn't share the same humor without Hank or the other usual cast of characters.
Overall I liked it, but if you're looking for another Hank book, this isn't it.

Not much of a story
Revisado: 03-18-21
To start off, I did enjoy this book. The problem is that it's not a complete story. There's no clear goal in the beginning. No through line that drives the story. Really just a bunch of events. Even worse is that it's predictable. It's success followed by setback, over and over til the end. I mean that literally. There's no conclusion, no resolution to the climax. This is more a bridge to the third book than a story.
I thought the VA was good though in his narration. All in all, I'd only recommend this if you intend to listen to the whole trilogy. I know a lot of people like myself are on the fence after the first novel.

Audiobook of a graphic novel!!
Revisado: 12-08-20
It's important to note that this (the prose version) are based off the original graphic novel. That should explain why this is differently formatted than Sanderson's other works.
First off, the differences from the original. I read the graphic novels awhile ago. As I listened to this, I also read the graphic novel again. There's additional scenes that add a bit more depth to characters and context to the situations. Some of the dialog and scenes were moved around, but everything in the graphic novel is still present. The narrator was also changed from first person to third. I felt some of the dialog or scenes being moved around were unnecessary, but it's probably better for prose storytelling. The description of the scenes matched what is drawn on the book. Basically the story is the same with some added scenes.
Secondly, the audiobook review. The performance and sound effects were very well done. Which is to be expected. All the full cast and/or sound effect audiobooks I've listened to on Audible are really good. The casting is great. This may be a fictional world, but certain accents are needed for the people of different countries. As far as I can tell, they sound authentic.
If you've listened to all other Cosmere audiobooks, I would recommend this next. This may be a lot shorter than the other Cosmere books, but it's also a full cast and sound effect audiobook. Keep in mind that this is a graphic novel story, not a regular novel. Most audiobooks with full cast and sound effects are not that long either.
Overall a great listen and worth my monthly credit.

Hilarious!
Revisado: 05-20-19
If you enjoy this series, then you'll enjoy this just as much.
Between the writing and the voice acting, I found I was laughing out loud more than I have in awhile. It may be because it's been awhile since I listened to a Hard Luck Hank book, but I found this one to be the funniest.
The story was on par with the other Hard Luck Hank books. The strengths lie in the characters and their interactions. As well as the voice acting. Liam Owen kills it again. I got lost with the various characters and almost forgot this was done by a single VA.
Overall I would recommend this book to those who enjoy the series.

This was written post movie, so it does well to expand upon what you've seen. It adds context to the characters and their actions. Some added subplots felt unnecessary and cliche while others were great additions. Overall worth a listen

Fantastic story and performance
Revisado: 09-19-18
Stephen Leeds is such an interesting character. The novellas each tell a great adventure. There's subtle connections to the previous ones and the final one completes Stephen's story. This collection feels like a full novel.
The vocal performance is also very well done. Each character's voice is distinctive allowing you to immerse in the story. Which is huge in this book with all the different characters.
