Historia
After facing war, death, unruly gods, and unmitigated evil, Minalan the Spellmonger is forced to return to Farise, the site of his earliest battles, with the simple assignment to conquer the subtropical city-state and expel the pirates that plague the kingdom’s shipping. Tired of warfare, Minalan embarks on a clandestine campaign to do so, assuming an alias and setting up shop in Farise as a mere Practical Adept as cover for his operation. Recruiting a cadre of talented agents to assist, he reluctantly begins the task of infiltrating and observing Farisian society.

Historia
What does the most powerful wizard in the world do after the war? Despite the hordes of goblins still ready to ravage human lands, King Rard has signed a treaty with them, so Minalan is forbidden from taking advantage of their weak state. Most would take a well-deserved rest over the summer…but Minalan and his household are busy repaying a favor owed to the tribal Kasari for their help in the war, and the Spellmonger pays his debts. So Minalan spends his summer sneaking 2,000 Kasari children through enemy lines and some of the roughest territory in the Five Duchies toward salvation.

Even if this is the first and only book you read from the series, it has such a nice story arc that it is still worth it! More likely, however, you won’t want to stop and can then start at book 1!

Excellent story telling for the tolerant reader
Revisado: 08-14-22
Before getting this book I became alarmed when I read several extremely negative reviews posted by other readers. These readers implied that this book was a waste or worthless somehow. I decided to get it anyway, having read the first two, and I am so grateful that I did! In response to those negative reviews, I couldn’t disagree more! This book was artfully crafted by a genius storyteller! I can only imagine that its explicit sexual content and anti-religious outlook may have stuck a nerve for some intolerant readers to trigger their extreme negativity?

Historia
In the run-up to the 2016 election, Masha Gessen stood out from other journalists for the ability to convey the ominous significance of Donald Trump's speech and behavior, unprecedented in a national candidate. Within 48 hours of Trump's victory, the essay "Autocracy: Rules for Survival" had gone viral, and Gessen's coverage of Trump's norm-smashing presidency became essential reading for a citizenry struggling to wrap their heads around the unimaginable.

For anyone who wants to understand
Revisado: 01-18-21
Before listening to this book I had a vague notion about why I found Trump’s behavior to be simultaneously infuriating and frightening. However, when asked about my concerns, I found it difficult to explain it to others. By carefully mapping out Trump’s behavior in office and comparing with other autocrats such as Putin, Masha offers brilliant insights in words how Trump operates and why it has been so divisive.

Very Satisfied!
Revisado: 11-30-20
Having reread RPO at least 10 times and being less than thrilled (but not totally devastated) with movie, I consider myself to be a fairly astute critic of this book. Without giving away any of the plot, I can safely report that this followup book does not disappoint! Before reading the book, I really had no idea how any follow up story could match the original plot line. Not only does Ernest succeed in matching his first book but he succeeds in developing new story lines that bridge nicely to the original while opening entirely new avenues of uncharted themes. Again, very satisfying!

Rocket science is often celebrated as the ultimate triumph of technology. But it's not. Rather, it's the apex of a certain thought process—a way to imagine the unimaginable and solve the unsolvable. It's the same thought process that enabled Neil Armstrong to take his giant leap for mankind, that allows spacecraft to travel millions of miles through outer space and land on a precise spot, and that brings us closer to colonizing other planets.

Put this at the top of your “to read” list!
Revisado: 04-21-20
Having downloaded this book shortly after its midnight release date, it has been my constant companion at every free moment. This is a book about how to make the most of your personal and professional life and career by listening to mistakes and staying curious even when success tempts you to become stagnant. As a scientist and inventor, I have personally experienced but not clearly understood many of these lessons until Ozan has crystallized them here. This book reveals many important truths that can help make the world a better place.
