Historia
Getting paid $80,000 to stay in bed for 13 weeks? That sounds like a dream job for Vanessa, one of 12 participants chosen for a bedrest study. Played by Karla Souza (How to Get Away with Murder), Vanessa is looking forward to earning extra money while putting her troubles—her mom’s death, an unplanned pregnancy, and a falling out with her cousin/best friend Brigid (Zoë Winters of Succession)—on pause. Vanessa quickly realizes, however, that she cannot outrun her problems...especially with her legs beginning to atrophy.

Historia
Joanna Gaines' new book, The Stories We Tell, invites us on an authentic and deeply vulnerable journey into her story—and helps shine a light on the beauty of our own—guiding us to release the weights that hold us back so we may live and share our story in truth. We've all dropped anchor in places that suited us for a time: a city, a perspective, a lie we mistook as truth. This book is an invitation to a kind of life where you know how to hold what you believe—about yourself and the quiet worlds behind the people you pass—with gracious and open hands.

Deep just like Joanna
Revisado: 08-14-23
I resonated with a lot she said and saw the wisdom in her words but I expected more stories to truly be called a memoir. Her voice is easy to listen to and her heart is tender but it still felt like her guard was up. But I can’t really blame her for that. Living such a public life must be very challenging.

Historia
Every day, we find ourselves in gatherings, Priya Parker says in The Art of Gathering. If we can understand what makes these gatherings effective and memorable, then we can reframe and redirect them to benefit everyone, host and guest alike. Parker defines a gathering as three or more people who come together for a specific purpose. When we understand why we gather, she says - to acknowledge, to learn, to challenge, to change - we learn how to organize gatherings that are relevant and memorable.

For anyone responsible for events
Revisado: 07-29-23
This book is full of great information for structuring events. It encourages meaningful conversation rather than just boring meet and greets. From the writing style, it sounds like Priya has a serious but lighthearted approach but the narrator didn’t reflect that. I wish Priya could have narrated her own book. It was professionally read, but in my opinion, didn’t feel authentic to the author’s personality.

Pure love!
Revisado: 06-26-23
Beth’s story reflects the experience of so many women our age. Her choice to give grace in the midst of legitimate anger is inspiring! Her love of Jesus is pure and unwavering and demonstrates a capacity for nuance. Even though I've read her work for year's, I now feel like a friend.

Historia
In Beauty Will Save the World, Brian Zahnd presents the argument that this loss of beauty as a principal value has been disastrous for Western culture, and especially for the church. The full message of the beauty of the Gospel has been replaced by our desires to satisfy our material needs, to empirically prove our faith, and to establish political power in our world - the exact same things that Christ was tempted with and rejected in the wilderness.

Historia
Tokyo resident Keiko Furukara has never fit in - neither in her family, nor in school - but when at the age of 18 she begins working at the Hiiromachi branch of national convenience store chain Smile Mart, she realizes instantly that she has found her purpose in life. Delighted to be able to exist in a place where the rules of social interaction are crystal clear (many are laid out line-by-line in the store's manual), Keiko does her best to copy the dress, mannerisms, and mode of speech of her colleagues, playing the part of a "normal" person excellently, more or less.

Having lived for many years in Japan, this felt like an authentic glimpse into the mind of a Japanese woman who doesn’t fit society’s expectations but is uniquely secure in herself.
