Historia
On a hot August night, Lt. Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke, speed through the streets of Manhattan to the Down and Dirty club, where a joyful, boisterous pre-wedding girls’ night out has turned into a murder scene. One of the brides lies in a pool of blood, garroted in a private room where she was preparing a surprise for her fiancée—two scrimped and saved-for tickets to Hawaii. Despite the dozens of people present, useful witnesses are hard to come by. It all brings back some bad memories for Eve.

Very, very repetitive
Revisado: 11-16-24
I’ve purchased every Eve Dallas book but this will be my last one. There wasn’t anything new in this story. Eve’s silly musings were all tired. The story wasn’t remotely interesting. Her interactions with Roarke, Peabody and Mavis were old and predictable. I kept listening hoping this would be the chapter that gave us a new Eve - maybe embarking on motherhood herself. Nope. This was more of the same with nothing new, interesting or unexpected.

Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Surprising story!
Revisado: 09-02-24
I chose this book because it popped up as recommended. I had never heard of it and had no expectations.
If you have ever felt like an island of one, buy this book. If you’ve ever been clueless about where you fit in this world, buy this book. This is a story of redemption and forgiveness. It is a story about coming out on the other side. It is sad. It is funny. It is real. Buy it and start listening. I’m so glad I did.

Confusing and Disappointing
Revisado: 04-20-23
First let me say I love Jojo Moyes and have read more than one of her books. This story had so much potential but the constant time changes made it very confusing and difficult to follow. I think it might be better reading/listening to it a second time to be able to grasp what all the “before” stories were about.
While some reviewers commented on the “surprise” ending, I found it disappointing and unfulfilling.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Worst Nicholas Sparks Book Ever
Revisado: 07-12-21
This story is so weak and uncharacteristically bad that I sincerely doubt that Sparks wrote it. The music and sound effects border on absurd. Sorry but I can’t find a shred of redeeming value here.

Disappointing
Revisado: 11-23-20
I love Baldacci and have never given his work a less than stellar review. Too much of the story was just plain unrealistic. I usually enjoy familiar characters from another series playing a cameo but this one just didn’t work for me. This book seemed forced and not up to the level of any other Baldacci tale. You’ll buy it anyway. You’ll be disappointed.

But then her work as an expert on fine china - especially Limoges - requires her to return to the one place she swore she'd never revisit. So much wasted potential
Revisado: 05-06-20
This book could be the kind of book you remember reading for years. The plot has so much potential but it falls miserably short. Where was the editor? I think a full third of the book could have been cut with no loss to the story. Additionally, the areas the reader most needs to hear about are completely absent.
SPOILER ALERT - Stop here if you don't want any insights into the book: We never really know anything about the actual life of Collette. When we meet her she is 3 years old and the next time we see her is 10 hours later (in the audio book). REALLY???? There is so much that we missed because the author didn't want to divulge the big secret. Her journey must have been amazing and we missed it.
Another huge miss are the excerpts from the bee keepers journal at the beginning of each chapter. We could have been given peeks into the life of the bee keeper through his journaling. I wish we could have learned more about the interactions of the two bee keepers. It would have made the reunion so much more poignant. Grandpa's story (and the mind numbing pain he carried for 60 years) is just missing. We know NOTHING! What an incredible character he could have been. His actions have the most impact on the story and we know nothing. HUGE MISS!!!!!!
I understand the book is meant to be about the pain we cause those we love and that understanding each other brings peace. Unfortunately, we only know a small part of what happened to Birdie and her father without being given the opportunity to walk with them.
