Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Everyone should read this book. It’s perfect. Heart breaking to the point of tears at more points than I care to mention, but utterly perfect.

A great story about a great company
Revisado: 12-21-22
Chouinard is so inspiring. If only more business owners worked by the same values and principles.
This is a really inspiring story. I found the narrator’s accent and pronunciation of certain words distracting, but overall it’s a great book.

Historia
In the Dream House is Carmen Maria Machado's engrossing and wildly innovative account of a relationship gone bad, and a bold dissection of the mechanisms and cultural representations of psychological abuse. Tracing the full arc of a harrowing relationship with a charismatic but volatile woman, Machado struggles to make sense of how what happened to her shaped the person she was becoming. And it's that struggle that gives the book its original structure: each chapter is driven by its own narrative trope - the haunted house, erotica, the bildungsroman....

Getting the hard copy
Revisado: 08-23-22
The story is great but the narration is so over the top you can’t concentrate on the narrative. I gave up and will get the hard copy.
It’s her book, so I guess she’s reading it as she wants it to be read but it just wasn’t for me.

Historia
Discover the strange legends, tales and history of Wales. Did the Welsh sail across the Atlantic in the 12th century? Was King Arthur Welsh? Included, are stories on ghosts - both real and fake - and the legend of King Arthur. Welsh animal lore, customs, monsters, and music are also examined. One of the strangest villages in the world gets a chapter to itself, as do witches, miners, and druids. The book is written in a personal, lighthearted style, with geographical references to help identify the places.

Needs edits

Both the writing and the narrator are excellent, but this is a bad edit. Some sections or sentences are repeated, later in the book it’s a whole chapter!

Historia
'Between the Stops is a sort of a memoir, my sort. It's about a bus trip really, because it's my view from the Number 12 bus (mostly top deck, the seat at the front on the right), a double-decker that plies its way from Dulwich, in South East London, where I was living, to where I sometimes work - at the BBC, in the heart of the capital. It's not a sensible way to write a memoir at all, probably, but it's the way things pop into your head as you travel, so it's my way'.

What a wonderful story. Perfect combination of London history, women’s history and Sandi’s own history. She’s such a treasure who works so hard to advance the cause of women. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

So useful
Revisado: 02-19-21
This book was so helpful and really gave me important insight into why I feel the way I do sometimes. It made connections that I had never even considered, but on reflection make so much sense! The science behind why the brain does what it does was very validating. The only negative was the recording quality. It sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom with a phone microphone.

I love her
Revisado: 09-03-20
The only thing that could have made this better is if Dawn had read it herself, but I 100% understand why she couldn't. This book is the tremendously written story behind a modern comedic genius. She is such an inspiring woman, I absolutely love her and I loved this book! Liza Tarbuck was a great stand-in for narration. Recommended.

Historia
For Susan Green, messy emotions don’t fit into the equation of her perfectly ordered life. She has a flat that is ideal for one, a job that suits her passion for logic, and an “interpersonal arrangement” that provides cultural and other more intimate benefits. But suddenly confronted with the loss of her mother and the news that she is about to become a mother herself, Susan’s greatest fear is realized. She is losing control.

Self-indulgent and entitled
Revisado: 09-03-20
This book assumes that the women reading it are as privileged as she is. It seems very out of touch with a lot of people's reality and seems to reinforce the kind of entitled behavior that some women think is ok. Not for me.
