Historia
Dorothy Graham is dead, which is inconvenient, not least for her. Luckily, she has planned for this eventuality. Now, if any of the truly dreadful people she is related to want to get their hands on her money, they’re going to have to do so via a fiendish difficult and frankly bizarre competition of Dorothy’s devising. After all, just because you’re dead, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a last laugh at the expense of people who made your life miserable.

Interesting history and biology lesson.
Revisado: 12-12-24
A fascinating topic that the author explored in detail. The history and biology of Bombyx mori shaped world history in many ways. Much time spent on pinnacae and arachnid silk could have been better used expanding upon the impact of Bombyx silk on history. The author's conclusions conveyed all the enthusiasm and much of the intellectual integrity of a high school commencement address.

Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway - a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors.

Listened to this book a couple years ago and thought I'd listen to it again. I liked it the first time and loved it the second time. Great story, excellent character development, and fantastic narrator. Destined to become a science fiction classic.

I listened to about one quarter of this book and had to give up because of unlikeable characters, a slow-moving plot, and juvenile content.

Historia
Raging ambition. Towering egos. Competition under a veneer of courtesy. Heroic effort combined with plagiarism, theft, exaggeration, and fraud. This was the state of bird study in eastern North America during the early 1800s, as a handful of intrepid men raced to find the last few birds that were still unknown to science. The most famous name in the bird world was John James Audubon, who painted spectacular portraits of birds. But although his images were beautiful, creating art was not his main goal. Instead, he aimed to illustrate (and write about) as many different species as possible.

Might have been good.
Revisado: 06-10-24
Translation State might have been a great story, as Anne Leckie has shown she can write with Ancillary Justice. But this bungled mess of innane pronouns and peevish characters insults the reader. If a writer doesn't like the English language's pronouns, then pick another language. I have given up on Leckie. Too bad.

Historia
Vampires do not exist. Everyone knows this. So it's particularly annoying when they start popping up around Manchester. Nobody is pleased about it. Not the Founders, the secret organisation for whom vampires were invented as an allegory, nor the Folk, the magical people hidden in plain sight who only want a quiet life. And definitely not the people of Manchester, because there is nothing more irksome than being murdered by an allegory run amok. Somebody needs to sort this out fast before all hell really breaks loose - step forward the staff of The Stranger Times.

Historia
On July 9, 1755, British and colonial troops under the command of General Edward Braddock suffered a crushing defeat to French and Native American enemy forces in Ohio Country. Known as the Battle of the Monongahela, the loss altered the trajectory of the Seven Years' War in America, escalating the fighting and shifting the balance of power. An unprecedented rout of a modern and powerful British army by a predominantly Indian force, Monongahela shocked the colonial world.
