So creepy
Revisado: 04-21-20
I could not stop listening to this book. The author just had this way with world building and character development. Kate Alice Marshall managed to make me want to stop and keep going at the same time. Something about this book reminded me of My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix because both included an epic supernatural adventure, very real friendships and a beautiful platonic love story. the reason why I gave it 4 stats overall is because of the ending. Something about it just felt very half baked. I went from being on a high for 8 hours to just feeling completely annoyed. I would recommend this to a friend though. It was beautifully disturbing.

I didn't know what to expect but I was not disappointed. This book was so sinister and tricky. I was constantly guessing about what was going to happen. sometimes I got it right and sometimes I got it wrong but I was always happy with what was presented.
Amy ( the main character) was a great character. She was flawed, messy, complex, and redeemable. I loved her relationship with Madison. In the end, she was just a person with a not so great backstory that wanted to start a new. While I can't say I finding everything that she did, I like that she wasn't such a Mary Sue. It made the story very believable.

BOOOOOORRINGGGGGG
Revisado: 02-09-20
I struggled to finish this book. I wanted too like it but it was just so.... dull. the hero is so perfect. He's a military man/ disaster prepper that can do any and everything. The rest of his posse includes a nurse and a mechanical engineer. And they never seem to be involved in human to human contact until the very end. when the was a finally conflict, it was incredibly anticlimactic.
I also don't understand why it's formatted like a diary but it isn't written like a diary. The hero seems to explain things as though someone else will read it.
Jay Snyder is a personal favorite of mine. but even he couldn't save this story for me. 0/10, wouldn't not recommended.

Family and change
Revisado: 12-27-19
Tjis is a wonderful story about family, love and mourning. The main character tells the story of her family and how it has been effected by loss. tThis family's journey is chronicled by a yearly Thanksgiving feast.
I loved this story because it was such a pound tale about moving on, greif and how difficult it can be. I really related to the brother Charlie because he was doing the best he could even though he didn't have all the support he needed. Sophie as a main character was also relatable because she herself was problematic. Watching her growth journey was beautiful because it really showed, sometimes we find out (after a long time) that we're actually the jack*** in the situation.
I would highly recommend this story. It's a great family sand perfect for Thanksgiving.

Historia
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

So close
Revisado: 08-29-19
This was sooooo close to being a great story. It starts off as such an interesting concept exploring secret societies, an approaching apocalypse, collapse of society, and more. However, I felt like there were way too many things happening at once. There were too many characters. So many people died that I often forget about them and their role in the story. I also thought that some of the characters weren't very likable. It was difficult for me to feel invested in the story and after a while I could not wait to end it. While I enjoyed the idea of a "soft" apocalypse, the resolution to the entire conflict seemed so anti-climatic.
If You like I ideas like these, I would recommend David Wong's John Dies At The End or This Book Is Full of spiders. Junk seems to miss the mark.
I enjoy John Waters but he isn't exactly a narrator. There wasn't very much distinction between characters. At times I couldn't figure out who was saying what.

Did you know that most of our dinosaur fossils were discovered because two grown men absolutely hated each other? It’s true! Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World is a riotous audio exclusive, like if Monty Python taught your history class. Each volume of four 30-minute histories will dig into the petty name-calling and grumbling grudges that led to many of the world’s greatest advancements, all delivered with a cheeky sense of humor. Choose sides: Cope or Marsh, the jerks who discovered so many dinosaurs; Hamilton or Burr, whose rivalry fueled American politics; and many more....

Revisado: 08-29-19
This is a great book! Anyone of any age can enjoy the stories presented. They are explained in a way that kids will understand but it is interesting enough for adults to enjoy. I learned so many things while listening and I got to bond with the little ones in my life over something educational. I also enjoyed the comedic take on the stories.I highly recommend this story as an adult woman who enjoy history and as the cool aunt who need a way to entertain her niece and nephew

In the year 2243, the Moon belongs to the dead. Not Bad, just not as good as the others
Revisado: 05-12-19
This has gotten a lot of not so great reviews. I think that this book could have been better received if it wasn't part of the Threshold series AND IF he had not written the Ex- heroes series. This book was barely (if at all) connected to the other two books. While we have cool elements like high tech space living, a mysterious monster, and alien space zombies, the characters were so underwhelming. The story also became a bit predictable after awhile. In the other books I felt such a strong connection the protagonists. However, Cali Washington wasn't as fleshed out as Nate and Mike and it showed. I feel disappointed in Peter Clines, this isn't his best work. Again it isn't bad but it lacks the magic captured in his other work.

Real and Raw
Revisado: 02-05-19
I have seen this book on so many lists and I have gotten so many recommendations. I understand why.
This story follows a young African-american couple as they navigate marriage and the criminal justice system.
I'm going to admit, I did not like any of the characters. They were all messy, irresponsible and reckless. However, that's what made this story so real. Celestial and Roy were put in impossible circumstances and you can't imagine that anyone (even in a stable relationship) would always act as rationally as people would expect. There is a bit of a love triangle but I will not spoil the story for those who have not read/ listened to it yet. Overall this was a great story that explored very complex issues about Race, marriage, Classicism, Incarceration and Loyalty.
Sean Crisden was amazing as usual. His voice fit Roy and Andre perfectly. Eisa Davis was also a convincing Celestial. Both spoke in southern drawls and captured their character's attitudes.

Don't Forget, It's just a game
Revisado: 01-22-19
This is an epic adventure of love, magic, fantasy, wild costumes and a good amount of suspense.
Scarlet and Donatella are two sister caught in the Caraval Game. When Donatella goes missing, Scarlet has to find her, while also playing the Caraval. The rule of the game is to solve the mystery and to never forget that it's just a game. Unfortunately, it is very easy to forget. As Scarlet plays, she finds it difficult differentiating between what is real and what isn't
Like Scarlet, I felt myself being swept away. It is very easy to do so. What made this story so easy to believe was Scarlet's naivete and her undying love for her sister. She had no problem following rules and giving things up to give her sister a better life. Her desperation was almost tangible. Of course, there's the magical fantasy of Caraval; but this is more of a whimsical backdrop to an intense love between two sisters. I will definitely be continuing the series.
Rebecca Soler was a great narrator. She very accurately captured the mystique of the story

I almost didn't believe it was him. In high school, Sebastian Pryce had been an aloof outsider who kept to himself. But now, 10 years later, he's back and unusually attractive. With muscles in all the right places and hands that know exactly what they're doing, Sebastian is everything I didn't know I needed. And while he isn't exactly friendly, he has a magnetism that draws me in.

Mental Health
Revisado: 11-01-18
Skylar and Sebastian had such a sweet story. Both went to the same high school. However Skylar was more popular and Sebastian was the "class weirdo" because of his mental health issues. However, Skylar wasn't a bully to him. They both moved on with their lives, experiencing ups and downs. They reunited at very interesting times in each of their lives.
I though this was a great story that accurately depicted struggles with Mental Health. I felt at though the author really did her homework. She humanized something that a lot of people don't get. I like that Skylar didn't try to change him but she adapted with him. Both people grew and learned together.
I love Nelson Hobbs. His performance was great. Lucy Malone is also pretty good.
