Historia
England, 1914. The world is at war. Captain Hastings, injured and shaken, is invited to Styles Court to recover. It’s a grand old country house - the family home of his old friend - and a perfect haven. Or so it seems. But in the blistering summer heat, trouble is afoot. Simmering tensions are tearing the family apart, and it all comes to a head in the most horrifying way.

Perfect production, great story
Revisado: 12-12-24
Fun story based on a classic. Excellent voice acting. An audio “production” with some room effects and music that goes quite well with the story and is low-key enough not to distract

Grossly unprofessional reading
Revisado: 12-11-24
Reader had this sing-songy time with odd stresses of words mid-sentence that was completely distracting. Not worth the free cost. Leaves me in bad mood.

Historia
Ta-Nehisi Coates originally set out to write a book about writing, in the tradition of Orwell’s classic “Politics and the English Language,” but found himself grappling with deeper questions about how our stories—our reporting and imaginative narratives and mythmaking—expose and distort our realities. In the first of the book’s three intertwining essays, Coates, on his first trip to Africa, finds himself in two places at once: in Dakar, a modern city in Senegal, and in a mythic kingdom in his mind.

Timely, touching message
Revisado: 11-30-24
This book offers a personal account of the author’s impressions from a visit to Senegal, Palestine, and a Confederate memorial service. He sees a similar devaluing of people at play in so many different situations. It isn’t until he reflects on the horrors of civil rights repression and slavery that he fully grasps what he saw in the Middle East. He views the craft a writer as a way to provoke the mind.

Great perspective on faith

Newbiggin offers an overview of philosophical approaches to Christianity, from the perspective of Christian conviction and scholarship. He spends time both exposing the ludicrous fallacies of liberals but also takes a few swipes at the Moral Majority.

Historia
One third to one half of Americans are introverts in a culture that celebrates - even enforces - an ideal of extroversion and a cult of personality. Political leaders are charismatic, celebrities bask in the spotlight, and authority figures are assertive. It is no surprise that a quiet revolution has begun to emerge among the invisible half of the population, asserting that they are just as powerful in their own unique ways. The Irresistible Introvert embodies the spirit of this revival and breaks down the myth that charisma is reserved for extroverts only.

Historia
Science fiction allows us to go places we can only dream of seeing - other worlds, distant stars, entirely different galaxies. While not every story is concerned with the hard science behind space travel and other futuristic ventures, fiction can give us amazing insight into what we could be capable of and what we dream of doing. In these 10 lectures, Professor Erin Macdonald interweaves real science and the achievements of the imagination to reveal the truth that underlies our favorite stories and sheds light on what the future may hold.

Good story with pop references
Revisado: 10-02-24
Author does a great job of making multiple references to all sorts of pop culture, as well as giving a reality-based, but hopeful outlook for some of these technologies to take place. Narration is extremely good, with appropriate repetition and reinforcement.

Historia
The diamonds of Sierra Leone have funded one of the most savage rebel campaigns in modern history. These "blood diamonds" are smuggled out of West Africa and sold to legitimate diamond merchants in London, Antwerp, and New York, often with the complicity of the international diamond industry. Eventually, these very diamonds find their way into the rings and necklaces of brides the world over.
